IDnow has secured certification to issue Qualified Electronic Attestations of Attributes (QEAAs), bridging a critical regulatory gap for European financial institutions. As firms scramble to meet looming Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (AMLR) deadlines, this move provides a legally recognized mechanism to verify specific customer credentials beyond basic identity, ensuring compliance within the evolving eIDAS 2.0 framework.

What was announced

IDnow Trust Services AB, the group’s Qualified Trust Service Provider (QTSP), has successfully completed a rigorous conformity assessment to issue QEAAs. This certification allows the firm to provide secure, machine-readable, and reusable digital credentials that attest to specific personal or organizational attributes, such as tax identification numbers, residential addresses, or professional certifications. Unlike traditional paper-based documents, these attestations are instantly verifiable and can be integrated directly into existing onboarding workflows or issued to the forthcoming European Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallet.

The assessment process involved onsite visits and a comprehensive review of the firm’s baseline processes, including attribute proofing, technical issuance, and IT security. Evaluated against the ETSI EN 319 401 and ETSI TS 119 471 standards, the audit concluded with zero non-conformities. The resulting report has been submitted to Sweden’s Post- och telestyrelsen (PTS), which serves as the supervisory body responsible for the official entry on the EU Trust List.

This development is strategically timed to address the Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (AMLR), which mandates that "obliged entities" verify a broad spectrum of customer data by July 10, 2027. Because standard Person Identification Data (PID) in many national eID schemes may lack these specific attributes, IDnow’s service aims to provide a single, accountable chain for identity verification and attribute proofing, ensuring firms do not face a data gap during the EUDI Wallet transition.

"AMLR doesn't just ask organisations to know who their customer is, it asks them to prove specific facts about that customer, and today's identity infrastructure wasn't built to do that consistently across Europe. With our QEAA certification, we will be able to offer organisations a legally recognised, audit-ready way to close that gap, without waiting for EUDI Wallet rollout timelines to catch up with regulatory deadlines that are already fixed."

The companies involved

IDnow is a prominent European provider of digital identity and fraud prevention solutions. The company specializes in secure remote identification, helping regulated businesses meet Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) requirements through automated and video-based verification methods. Its subsidiary, IDnow Trust Services AB, operates as a Qualified Trust Service Provider (QTSP), a designation that allows it to provide high-assurance trust services under the eIDAS regulation.

The certification process was overseen by Post- och telestyrelsen (PTS), the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority. As the national supervisory body, PTS monitors electronic trust services in Sweden and manages the national "Trusted List," which is essential for the cross-border recognition of electronic signatures and attestations within the European Union. By securing this status, IDnow positions itself as a central infrastructure provider in the European digital identity ecosystem, moving beyond simple identity checks to become a source of verified, high-trust data attributes for the financial services sector and beyond.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has closely followed IDnow’s trajectory as it aligns its technology with shifting European mandates. In 2025, we reported that IDnow Sets New Standard as One of Europe's First Identity Verification Providers to Meet Latest eIDAS 2.0 Regulations. The company has also been active in expanding its ecosystem through partnerships, such as when IDnow and Keyless Forge Strategic Partnership to Deliver Continuous Trust Across the Digital Identity Lifecycle and its collaboration where IDnow and Trustfull Partner to Deliver Continuous Fraud Prevention Beyond Onboarding. Leadership has also been a focus of our coverage, notably when IDnow Appoints Former Railsr CEO Philippe Morel to Lead European Expansion in 2026.

What this means

This move puts significant pressure on legacy identity providers who rely on manual document uploads or unverified data scrapes. By becoming a certified issuer of QEAAs, IDnow is effectively future-proofing its business against the full implementation of eIDAS 2.0. For fintechs and banks, the July 2027 AMLR deadline is a ticking clock; the ability to source "audit-ready" attributes through a single API rather than managing multiple fragmented sources is a major operational advantage. Watch for other QTSPs to rush for similar certifications as the market shifts from "identity verification" to "attribute attestation." The real test will be how quickly these QEAAs are adopted by the first wave of EUDI Wallets.
