Senior marketing leaders in financial services and fintech are navigating rapid shifts across channel investments, execution quality, and AI adoption, yet 44% still operate without a formal integration strategy. For fintech professionals, this disconnect between operational speed and commercial results highlights a critical need for structured governance to convert efficiency into bottom-line performance.

What was announced

The "State of Digital Marketing in Financial Services and Fintech 2026" report, published by the Fin.Tech Marketing Community and Accuracast, surveyed senior marketing executives and budget owners at banks, scale-up fintechs, and asset managers worldwide. The research highlights a significant gap in strategic planning: while 75% of respondents use AI regularly across marketing functions, 44% operate without a formal integration strategy. Additionally, 34% of firms rely on informal indicators rather than set KPIs to measure the success of their digital initiatives.

The report found that while AI has successfully increased content volume and production speed, its impact on bottom-of-funnel metrics—such as customer acquisition cost (CAC), pipeline velocity, and customer retention—is currently lagging behind. Although 70% of those surveyed believe their digital performance meets or exceeds expectations, fewer than one in six feel "very confident" that tools alone will provide a lasting competitive advantage. Instead, respondents identified execution quality as the main differentiator in an increasingly crowded market.

Looking ahead to 2026, Answer Engine Optimisation (AEO) emerged as the most actively planned new investment for marketing teams. Furthermore, 60% of respondents expect high long-term returns from better alignment between sales and marketing teams. While no respondents reported negative audience reactions to AI use, 50% of firms are now incorporating audience trust risks into their formal governance policies to maintain credibility in highly regulated financial environments.

"The era of gaining advantage simply by adopting AI is over. The findings suggest that financial services marketers have moved beyond the adoption phase of AI and into a much harder challenge: turning operational efficiency into measurable commercial advantage,"

Together, these organisations provide benchmarking and strategic guidance for financial institutions looking to refine their digital presence and maintain audience trust while adopting emerging technologies like AI and Answer Engine Optimisation.

What this means

The findings indicate that the fintech sector is entering a period of "AI disillusionment" where the novelty of speed no longer translates to a competitive edge. The fact that 44% of leaders lack a formal integration strategy suggests a widespread tactical approach to technology that ignores long-term structural health. As Answer Engine Optimisation (AEO) gains traction, firms that fail to move beyond content volume toward verifiable pipeline impact will likely see their margins squeezed by rising customer acquisition costs. The industry is now under pressure to professionalise its AI governance, moving away from informal indicators toward the hard metrics that boards and investors demand.
