Centreville Bank has selected Jack Henry to overhaul its core processing and digital infrastructure, a move aimed at scaling the $3 billion-asset institution’s operations across New England. For fintech professionals, this migration highlights the ongoing trend of historic mutual banks abandoning legacy systems to compete with national players through integrated treasury and digital platforms.

What was announced

Centreville Bank, which operates 26 locations across Rhode Island and Connecticut, is implementing Jack Henry’s core processing platform alongside several specialized modules. Central to the digital overhaul is the Banno Digital Platform™, which will serve both retail and business customers. To bolster its commercial lending and relationship banking services, the bank is also deploying JHA Treasury Management™ for enhanced cash management capabilities.

The bank is introducing Enterprise Workflow and the Synapsys customer relationship management (CRM) platform to its operations for the first time. These tools are intended to automate manual internal processes and create a more unified experience for both employees and customers. This technological investment follows a period of significant growth for the bank, driven by strategic acquisitions, geographic expansion, and commercial lending. As the institution approaches its 200th anniversary, the transition to Jack Henry is designed to provide the flexibility required to add new capabilities as customer needs evolve. The decision was influenced by Jack Henry’s long-term technology strategy and its use of workflow automation, as well as a perceived cultural alignment between the two organizations regarding the community banking model.

"We were looking for modern technology to support our continued growth while helping us deliver the level of service and experience our customers and employees expect," said Jillian J. DeShiro, EVP, Chief Financial and Operating Officer at Centreville Bank. "There is a lot of excitement about the opportunities this move will create for our customers, employees, and future growth. Jack Henry gives us the flexibility to add new capabilities as our customers' needs evolve and continue delivering the personalized banking experience that sets Centreville Bank apart. The strong cultural alignment and shared commitment to community banking were also deciding factors."

The companies involved

Jack Henry (Nasdaq: JKHY) is a prominent provider of technology solutions for the financial services industry. The company specializes in providing core processing platforms, digital banking tools, and specialized payment processing for community and regional banks. With a significant footprint in the North American market, Jack Henry has positioned itself as a primary alternative to the largest legacy core providers by focusing on open integration and user experience through products like the Banno Digital Platform.

Centreville Bank is a mutual bank founded in 1828 in West Warwick, Rhode Island. Unlike stockholder-owned institutions, as a mutual bank, it is owned by its depositors. It has grown into a $3 billion-asset institution through a combination of organic growth in commercial lending and strategic acquisitions. The bank maintains a presence in both Rhode Island and Connecticut, focusing on a relationship-driven banking model that serves individuals, families, and growing businesses. Its longevity—spanning nearly two centuries—makes it one of the oldest continuously operating financial institutions in the United States, currently undergoing a digital transformation to maintain its market position in an increasingly competitive New England banking landscape.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has tracked Jack Henry’s steady expansion of its ecosystem through both internal development and strategic partnerships. In late 2025, the company completed the Jack Henry Acquires Victor Technologies to Expand PaaS Capabilities. This followed reports of other institutions, such as Traditional Bank Chooses Jack Henry for Modern, Open Technology Platform, selecting the provider for its open technology architecture.

More recently, the company has focused on enhancing its platform with third-party integrations. This includes a collaboration where Trust Stamp Bolsters Jack Henry Banking Platform with AI-Powered Identity Verification to combat fraud. Additionally, the company worked with Splitit and Jack Henry Launch Debit Card Installments for Banks and Credit Unions, allowing institutions to offer buy-now-pay-later functionality directly through existing debit accounts.

What this means

This deal underscores the mounting pressure on mid-sized mutual banks to modernize or risk irrelevance. While Centreville Bank’s $3 billion asset base is substantial, the cost of maintaining legacy systems is becoming prohibitive compared to the scalability of integrated platforms like Banno. By prioritizing treasury management and CRM automation, the bank is signaling that "relationship banking" is no longer sustainable through manual effort alone; it requires sophisticated data orchestration. For the wider industry, this move validates the shift toward core providers who can offer a unified experience for both retail and commercial operations, putting legacy providers who rely on siloed architectures under increasing competitive strain.
