Banking Circle: Navigating the Hybrid World of Fiat and Stablecoins

At Money20/20 Europe, Kirit Bhatia, Chief Digital Asset Officer at Banking Circle, breaks down the current state of cross-border payments and how Banking Circle is bridging the gap between traditional banking and the world of digital assets.

Bhatia identifies three main friction points that currently plague cross-border payments: slow settlement time (often taking days), high costs driven by multiple intermediaries, and the overall complexity of managing layered transactions and compliance. To solve these, Banking Circle is focusing on direct integration with payment rails wherever possible, however, when that isn’t an option, Banking Circle’s internal platform, BCNow, allows participants to settle in 24 currencies around the clock, effectively hiding the technical complexity to provide customers with an instant experience.

Customer feedback is at the heart of their strategy and Bhatia explains that clients are looking for two things: global reach and the ability to integrate stablecoins into their existing workflows.

Banking Circle is responding to this by expanding their currency stack and building stablecoin support directly into their core banking infrastructure. This allows for a hybrid model where customers can move between fiat and on-chain transactions seamlessly, much like driving a car that switches between electric and petrol modes without changing the driver experience.

Bhatia stresses that stablecoins isn’t a future project for Banking Circle, it is happening right now. With evolving regulations and better tools for security and compliance, the industry is ready. By simplifying the technical complexities of digital wallets and chains, Banking Circle aims to empower their clients to navigate both the traditional and digital financial worlds with the trust and reliability of a partner they already rely on for their banking needs.
