The new and old in cross-border payments with NatWest | FF News at Sibos 2023

At Sibos 2023 we caught up with Ian Povey, CIO of Payments Services and Technology at NatWest, about what’s changed in cross-border payments in the 50 years since Swift’s origination and what the UK bank is working on to take them into the future. Amongst the primary concerns around international payments are speed and removing friction but also the need to ensure that data quality is high.

Povey also talks about working with the wider financial ecosystem to make things work using different payment schemes and points out the opportunities provided by new tech to develop new value propositions. Embedded finance and VRPs are just some of the areas that gets a mention here.
