Ian Povey is a seasoned and globally recognised executive in product and technology delivery, with a track record of consecutive CIO roles. As a strategic technology leader, Ian Povey engages with business goals, risk and resilience requirements, and ultimately the customer experience. A catalyst for change, Ian's leadership style is defined by a clear vision and purpose, coupled with regular and consistent engagement to foster followership. Ian Povey is committed to empowering his teams through coaching, nurturing high performers, and fostering a culture where everyone can contribute to both operational and transformational activities. Currently, Ian Povey serves as the CIO of Payment Services & Technology at NatWest Banking Group, accountable for the operational and transformational delivery within a systemically important sector of the industry. His focus lies on the modernisation of the technological landscape, embracing new methodologies and skill sets, while ensuring operational continuity. Ian's primary accountabilities include balancing a change-driven agenda that meets regulatory demands while also supporting key business objectives, fostering innovation, remediation, and maintaining high service availability. He is a well-connected leader, both within the organisation and in the broader industry. Previously, Ian Povey held a comparable position as CIO of Payments at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) Group. Recognised for driving change, he managed multidisciplinary teams of over 500 FTEs and oversaw a portfolio worth approximately A$250 million annually. During his tenure at PayPal in Australia and later in San Jose, California, He led the strategy, design, and rollout of a new tokenization platform, which facilitated new B2B partnerships and offerings across various regions. This initiative led to a joint patent. Ian Povey maintains a customer-centric approach, adhering to the fundamental principle from MBNA: 'Think of yourself as a Customer.' For a CIO, maintaining proximity to the customer's perspective is crucial. Ian Povey is focused on modernisation and transformation of payments capabilities, collaborating with the business to continuously improve each customer journey, and investing in team culture. Ian joined the Board of Directors of SWIFT in 2022 and serves on the Board and is a Trustee of Charities Trust in the UK.
