The Current Account Switch Service was launched in 2013 and is operated by Pay.UK, the not-for-profit company responsible for the shared utilities and services necessary for all the UK’s interbank payments to safely happen. In 2019, Pay.UK payment systems enabled 9.2 billion Direct Debits, Direct Credits, Faster Payments and Cheque Payments with a combined value of £7.4 trillion.
