About Philip Panaino

Philip Panaino was responsible for leading the Transaction Bank’s, Global Cash Management business. As a member of the global leadership team, he is a passionate African and enjoys developing payment ecosystems through disruptive technology. Prior to the role of Global Head of Cash Management, Philip Panaino was responsible for the Transaction Banking business for the Western Hemisphere spanning Africa and the Middle East, Europe and Americas. He joined Standard Chartered in 2014 from MasterCard, where he was Division President for South Africa. Under his leadership one of the most successful Financial Inclusion payments program’s globally was launched in partnership with the South African government ultimately expanding Financial Inclusion in South Africa. Prior to MasterCard, Philip Panaino lead the Transaction Banking business for Citibank. He brings more than 25 years experience in payments, transaction banking, spanning Cash, Trade and Securities Services. He is an: • Ardent innovator: Philip Panaino  is invested in the future of payments, where friction is entirely removed from cross-border and FX payments. A recent example is sponsorship of the strategic investment in Partior, a blockchain-based payments network, as part of product development, network partnerships, and commercialisation strategy • Client advocate: He championed the development of an internal “Winning Through Service” global campaign in 2023 to uplift the client service quality and proposition, by driving process and performance improvements. This differentiated and resulted in client survey scores rising to a staggering 70%+ satisfaction rate. • Sustainability champion: Philip sought a strategy to marry clients’ cash management needs with their sustainability goals. An in-depth understanding of clients’ challenges led to the team introducing an innovative Sustainable Account solution that embeds sustainability elements into cash management. It has also received multiple awards, alongside recognition from clients about its replicability and flexibility. • Active industry contributor and thought leader: Active contributor of the SWIFT Payments Vision Group, which brings leaders from Top 10 global banks together. He was also a Board Member for Partior, an industry leading DLT-based payment infrastructure provider. He has contributed to a broad range of topics that are top-of-mind for the industry, such as the debate between cost optimisation and operational efficiency, sustainability-driven payment innovations, cutting-edge cash management, treasury for the new economy.
