As the Group Executive of Business Banking at Commonwealth Bank, Mike Vacy-Lyle is passionate about connecting with Australian businesses and clients to understand their unique needs. He has held various roles in Commercial Banking throughout his career including finance, pricing, product, capital management, sales and relationship management. He enjoy leading people towards a common goal and designing best-in-class digital tools and services to make it easier for customers and staff to get things done. Michael Vacy-Lyle is Commonwealth Bank’s Group Executive for Business Banking. Mike Vacy-Lyle  commenced in this role in February 2020, and has responsibility for Business Banking and CommSec. Prior to joining CBA, Michael was Chief Executive Officer of FNB Commercial Banking, a division of the FirstRand Banking Group in South Africa. Michael spent 18 years at FNB, Africa’s largest commercial bank, working across various roles in commercial banking, including finance, pricing, product, capital management, sales, and relationship management, until his appointment as CEO in August 2011. Before joining FNB, Michael worked in London as an investment analyst at a new technology private equity fund and then as a manager in corporate finance at KPMG. He has a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) from University of KwaZulu-Natal, and the University of South Africa, and is also a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants. Michael Vacy-Lyle was ensconced at First National Bank, one of South Africa’s big four lenders, when he took a surprise call from a recruiter in 2019, who asked if he wanted to fly to London to meet Matt Comyn. When he arrived at the restaurant to meet Comyn, he had to do a quick Google search to see what the CBA chief looked like. The pair hit it off and two hours later, Vacy-Lyle was considering a move to Sydney.
