About Hugh Chater

Hugh Chater has over 25 years of experience in financial services. He was an Executive founder at MBNA Europe, joining in 1993 from KPMG Management Consulting. At MBNA, Hugh Chater held executive roles in HR, Credit Management, Customer Satisfaction and Marketing before becoming Chief Operating Officer and then UK Managing Director. In 2007, Hugh Chater joined RBS Retail to run the consumer credit card business, moving to run retail products on both sides of the balance sheet. Hugh Chater joined Virgin Money in 2016 as Chief Commercial Officer. Following the acquisition by CYBG, He led the Group Mortgage Franchise. From October 2021, He has been Chief Commercial Officer for Virgin Money Plc, accountable for the Business and Consumer bank performance, together with Brand and Marketing. Hugh Chater is a Director on the VMUTM JV Board. Consistently successful and widely experienced, he is an Executive Leader who is expert at setting direction, taking direct P&L accountability, and delivering results for substantial businesses in complex organizations. He has held senior, including Board level, roles in a progression of UK and International companies, operating direct and multi-channel business models.
