About Dr Imran Lum

Dr. Imran Lum looks after the award-winning Islamic finance business for National Australia Bank's Business and Private Bank, where he specializes in structuring Islamic finance transactions in Australia. He was appointed by the Foreign Minister to the Board of the Australia-ASEAN Council, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and through this role, he seeks to help people build relationships across Southeast Asia.
In academia, Dr Imran Lum was appointed as an Honorary Research Fellow at the Australian Catholic University and recently authored a book titled A Comparative Study of Islamic Finance in Australia and the UK, which will be published by Routledge in September 2021. He is also one of the co-founders of Markaz and is passionate about teaching Arabic, offering a free online learning platform and Arabic podcasts.
Dr. Imran Lum was honored to be ranked among 'The Top 500 People Who Make the Islamic Economy' by ISLAMICA 500 for three consecutive years (2017-2019). In 2019, he was named one of the 40 Under 40 Most Influential Asian Australians and awarded the winner of the 'Corporate' category.
