About Dominic Williams

Dominic Williams is an engineering entrepreneur and a distributed computing/crypto theoretician. Dominic Williams led the creation of the Internet Computer network (see internetcomputer.org) and founded DFINITY. It was the first project of its kind to receive funding from Andreessen Horowitz, even before the a16z crypto funds were established. Currently, he resides in Zurich, where the headquarters of DFINITY is based. Before entering the blockchain space, Dominic Williams founded an MMO/social network aimed at boys aged 8-12, which grew to nearly 3 million user accounts and was, for a time, the fastest-growing kids' game in Europe. Dominic Williams also developed various distributed computing technologies to support its large-scale operation. The company raised venture funding when it reached around 1 million users, prompting him to move to Palo Alto, where he stayed for 10 years. Since the organization’s inception in 2016, DFINITY’s mission has been to transform the public internet into a powerful decentralized cloud to host the next-generation of software and services. The Internet Computer is being built by the industry’s leading team of distributed systems and cryptography experts, across several research centers around the world, and backed by investors such as Andreessen Horowitz and Polychain Capital. Recently, his scientific discoveries across Threshold Relay and PSC chains, Validation Towers and Trees, USCIDs, and The 3 E's of Sybil Resistance have pioneered new approaches to cryptography and blockchain technology. A third generation blockchain plays the role of a smart contract cloud – an alternative IT stack – where it is possible to host systems, services and AI end-to-end on blockchain in the mode of full stack decentralization. ICP technology is also being used by the UTOPIA project. A UTOPIA is a private sovereign cloud created using ICP technology (acronym Unstoppable Tamperproof Open Platform for Independent Autonomy) operated by an enterprise, NGO or government. Each UTOPIA private cloud hosts systems, services and AI that is unstoppable and tamperproof, which run without need for the protection of cybersecurity systems like firewalls and anti-malware.
