Zip Appoints Former EasyJet Commercial Director as New UK Chief

Ruth Spratt, former European commercial director at easyJet, has been appointed UK Country Manager at global Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) leader Zip to lead the company’s expansion in the UK.

As one of the most senior women in the BNPL industry, Ruth has marked the start of her new role by committing Zip to the Treasury’s Women in Finance Charter, continuing her career-long focus on gender equality.

Ruth has over 25 years’ experience in senior leadership, with multiple roles at Board and Director level across media, travel, automotive, and environmental industries. Ruth joined Zip in 2019 as a Senior Director responsible for the commercial and marketing teams, leading on Zip’s global retail partnerships and the launch of Zip in-store in the UK.

As well as accelerating the company’s UK growth, Ruth’s promotion will bolster Zip’s commitment to gender inclusion through a variety of new corporate policies, such as extended maternity and paternity pay and miscarriage bereavement leave, making Zip the market leader in this area. Moreover, Zip’s commitment to the guidelines outlined in HM Treasury’s Women in Finance Charter will ensure that Zip continues to support the progression of Women into senior roles within the finance industry.

Prior to joining Zip, Ruth was Managing Director of Guardian Media Group, and Chief Commercial Officer and Board Director at environmental risk reduction company, Adler & Allan.

Ruth is a people first leader with a proven track-record in building high performing, supportive, and inclusive teams. Across her career, Ruth has led multiple diversity groups including Guardian Media Group’s ‘Women in Media’ initiative, steering easyJet’s Women’s Network, and is now a UK DEI Champion at Zip. Earlier this year, Ruth was included in Innovate Finance’s Women in Fintech Powerlist for 2021.

Ruth Spratt, UK Country Manager, said: “As the global Buy Now, Pay Later pioneer, I’m thrilled to be leading Zip’s mission to disrupt the credit card model in the UK. While our focus in the UK will be to build our customer base and grow our retail partnerships, I want to do so while ensuring diversity and inclusion remains at the heart of who we are at Zip. I look forward to working with Larry and the rest of the global Zip leadership team as we cement Zip’s world-leading position.”

Tommy Mermelshtayn, Zip Chief Strategy Officer EMEA said: “Ruth’s experience in senior leadership and business growth will be central to building on our success in the UK. Ruth is a true champion of diversity, equity and inclusion, and her personal dedication to the cause is central to Zip’s values as a company”

Founded in Sydney in 2013, Zip is one of the fastest growing Buy Now, Pay Later lenders in the world. Building on the company’s success in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, United States, and other markets, Ruth will support the broader team to expand its merchant partners in the UK.
