Taurus Secures MiFID Investment Firm License to Expand Regulated Digital Asset Services in the EU
Taurus SA (“Taurus”), a FINMA-regulated securities firm and a leader in digital asset infrastructure technology solutions, announced that its Cyprus-based subsidiary Taurus (Europe) Ltd, has been granted an investment firm license under MiFID regulation by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC).
Regulated market access in Europe
Taurus (Europe) Ltd operates from its physical office in Nicosia, Cyprus, and will act as the group’s hub for investment services in EU markets. It is duly authorized to operate and, subject to the relevant notification and passporting procedures, Taurus (Europe) Ltd will serve EU-based clients in all 27 EU jurisdictions.
Building on Taurus SA’s FINMA-license obtained in 2021, this new authorisation gives Taurus (Europe) Ltd a fully regulated presence in the European Union, allowing it to provide MiFID services in relation to financial instruments, including tokenized DLT financial instruments. This enables Taurus to actively support banks and financial institutions across Europe as they design and scale their digital asset strategies. The MiFID license complements the firm’s existing technology offering for custody and tokenization, giving clients a partner of choice for both digital asset infrastructure and related investment services.
Highest assurance in the industry
As regulation becomes increasingly clear in most major financial centres, the MiFID license is a further testament to Taurus’ robust business model and risk management framework. In addition to all security certifications and the FINMA license in place, the new MiFID license provides Taurus group’s clients with a powerful assurance in the firm’s governance, cybersecurity practices, and adherence to the most stringent regulatory requirements.
Strengthened leadership
To support its expansion in Europe, Taurus (Europe) Ltd has established a new Board of Directors that brings together Taurus representatives and independent members with deep expertise in financial services, in line with local requirements. The Board includes, among others, Non-Executive Directors Lino Finini, former COO and Executive Committee member at Swissquote, and George Psomas. Together, they further strengthen Taurus group’s governance and strategic oversight as the company expands its regulated digital asset services across the European Union.
“The MiFID license is an important step in our European strategy,” said Sébastien Dessimoz, co-founder and Managing Partner at Taurus. “It allows us to support EU-based entities within a clear regulatory framework as they scale their digital and tokenized asset activities.”
