Social trading app, Shares, launches new Communities feature to connect investors

Shares, Europe’s first social investing app, has introduced in-app communities, in an exciting move to level the investing playing field. Shares Communities, available on the app now, will connect investors based on interests, like ethical investing and Web 3.0, as well as through stock specific groups, such as Tesla and Apple.

The launch of Communities is the latest move from the social investing startup that aims to support and increase the confidence of beginner investors by providing a platform to discuss and engage with others.

Community-powered investing

The company, which recently closed $40million in Series B funding round led by Valar Ventures, is committed to socialising the shareholder experience with the introduction of Communities being the latest evolution of this journey. The new feature will empower users to connect with people outside of their immediate friendship circles and with those who share similar investing interests.

Benjamin Chemla, Co-Founder and CEO of Shares, said: “Community-powered investing is in our DNA at Shares. At its core, Communities gives users the opportunity to reimagine the relationships they have with the companies they invest in. Communities will help us close this gap between investors and their most beloved brands. Getting people chatting and engaged first helps create a precursor for what comes next”.

Accessible for all verified users who have completed onboarding checks, Communities will allow users to share everything from the latest news and trends, to thoughts and questions – Shares will encourage users to join the moderated channels, which will be a safe space to learn more about investing and celebrate their successes.

Beginner investors

With under 23s accounting for over one third of Shares users, the app is fast becoming a popular space for beginner investors. Research has found that many beginner investors do not have people in their immediate circles who invest and are often unsure of how or where to get started.

As an inclusive space, Communities will help connect users based on similar interests or experience to make starting in the investing world less intimidating. Shares has created a dedicated community for “Beginner Investors” alongside six other new communities for users to join.

Harjas Singh, Co-Founder and CPO of Shares, said: “We’re hugely excited by the opportunities that Communities provide to help connect our users. We know investing can be intimidating when you don’t know where to start, so we’re trying to remove the barriers to entry. At its core, we’re bringing people together around shared investing interests, regardless of experience.”

The latest update will allow Shares users to:
