Pennies Partners with Castles Technology to Launch Micro-Donations on Android Payment Terminals
Pennies, the UK’s leading micro-donation charity, has successfully launched its innovative solution on Castles Technology hardware, a leader in Android payment acceptance. This collaboration enables customers to easily add a small donation to their purchases in-store, seamlessly combining convenience with charitable giving.
This important deployment, carried out in partnership with Lloyds Cardnet as the acquirer and Handepay and Merchant Rentals as key customers, demonstrates how technology can be harnessed quickly and effectively for good. Thanks to the ease of collaboration and technical flexibility provided by Castles Technology, the Pennies micro-donation app was smoothly integrated into the CastlesPay payment application, offering an effortless experience for merchants and consumers alike.
Alison Hutchinson, CBE, CEO of Pennies, commented: “Castles Technology has been an incredible partner. Their team’s can-do attitude and speed of delivery have enabled us to bring Pennies to even more merchants, offering customers the chance to give a little and make a big difference. Castles Technology’ commitment to innovation and purpose-driven technology truly shines through.”
Jean-Philippe Niedergang, CCO and EMEA-PACIFIC-LATAM CEO at Castles Technology, added: “We are incredibly proud to support Pennies and help make charitable giving even more accessible at the point of sale. At Castles Technology, we believe in using our innovation not just to drive business success, but also to empower communities and good causes. Working with Pennies, Lloyds Cardnet, Handepay, and Merchant Rentals has been a fantastic example of how quickly and positively we can come together to make a real difference.”
The integration marks a major milestone in bringing digital micro-donations to more retail locations across the UK, helping Pennies grow its impact. Castles Technology’s robust, reliable hardware and open, agile architecture made it easy to build and launch the solution quickly — ensuring that merchants like those supported by Handepay and Merchant Rentals can seamlessly offer donation options at checkout.
Melinda Roylett, MD of Lloyds Merchant Services, added: “At Lloyds Merchant Services, we’re always looking for ways to use technology for good. This partnership is a brilliant example of how seamless innovation at the point of sale can create meaningful impact. By rounding up purchases or adding a donation, UK customers are raising millions for vital causes. When multiplied across many transactions, these gestures create lasting impacts for charities and communities. We’re proud to play a role in helping Pennies reach more people and causes.”
Pennies, Castles Technology, Lloyds Cardnet, Handepay, and Merchant Rentals are proud to collaborate on this initiative, combining technology and social impact to empower customers to support charities every day, with just a few pennies.
