American Express Acceptance Takes Off With Wizz Air

American Express and Wizz Air announced today that Amex is now accepted as a payment method for flight bookings and onboard purchases, offering greater flexibility for leisure and business travellers.

Wizz Air operates nearly 800 routes across Europe and beyond, with over 70 million annual passengers, and continues to grow its footprint in both established and emerging markets. Under the new agreement, Amex Cardmembers can now seamlessly book flights or pay for services and onboard products using their Amex Card, via the Wizz Air website and mobile app. Exclusive offers and discounts for spending with Wizz Air will also be available for American Express Cardmembers via the Amex Offers platform in the coming weeks.

This latest agreement with Wizz Air adds to Amex’s growing base of accepting merchants in the UK and means that Cardmembers can use their Amex Card with all major airlines that fly in and out of the country. Wizz Air joins a record number of businesses in the UK that recognise the value of accepting Amex, including every major supermarket chain, high street retailers and hundreds of thousands of small businesses.

The agreement adds to Amex’s widespread travel and transit acceptance across the UK, encompassing every rail company and contactless acceptance with Transport for London. In addition, Amex is growing acceptance across regional tram and bus networks, and earlier this year signed a deal with Brighton & Hove Buses and Metrobus, meaning Cardmembers can seamlessly tap, pay and go on their travels across Surrey, Sussex and Kent.

Dan Edelman, UK General Manager, Merchant Services at American Express, said: “We are committed to ensuring our Cardmembers can use their Card wherever they live, work and travel. We’re delighted that American Express is now accepted by Wizz Air, one of Europe’s leading low-cost airlines. This agreement gives our Cardmembers travelling for both leisure and on business greater flexibility when spending with Wizz Air and further cements our strong merchant acceptance across airlines and beyond.”

Ian Malin, Chief Financial Officer at Wizz Air, added: “We are excited to offer American Express as a payment option to our passengers across Europe. Many corporate travellers prefer Amex, so this ensures they can enjoy our ultra-low fares and extensive route network with greater ease and flexibility. American Express is a globally trusted name in payments, and this integration reflects our ongoing commitment to meeting the evolving needs of our customers, while also enabling smoother transactions at every stage of their journey with Wizz Air.”

When it comes to travelling, airport lounge access, travel insurance and the ability to earn additional Membership Rewards® points are just some of the benefits on offer with American Express. For example, The Platinum Card® offers unlimited access to over 1,400 airport lounges, comprehensive worldwide travel insurance and 2x Membership Rewards points when spending at American Express Travel Online.
