Air Europa Allows Split Payment for Tickets in the Online Purchase Process
Air Europa continues extending the options for its customers to customize the shopping experience to suit their needs. To achieve this, the airline now offers Hands In’s split payment technology on its website, enabling customers to divide ticket costs between multiple travellers or credit cards at checkout. Since launching this feature in June 2024, Air Europa has generated €3.8M + in incremental revenue and 15,000+ unique profiles using split payments, underscoring the feature’s popularity and customer appeal.
With Group Payments, users can divide the payment of the transaction between several people, personalising the amounts and making it more accessible to deal with this type of expense, even generating payment links. This option has proven especially effective for group trips, contributing €1.6M + in incremental revenue and achieving an 87.8% conversion rate when the lead booker pays with the first card. On the other hand, it presents the Multi Card Payments option, which makes it possible to purchase a ticket using several different cards, which also makes it easier to purchase it. The multi-card solution is also available when Hands In receives the decline code from the acquirer due to insufficient funds, prompting a pop-up that allows the customer to retry the transaction using two cards instead of one. This feature has recovered €2.4M+ in revenue and sees a conversion rate of 95.1% when the first card payment is made.
The technology implemented on the Air Europa website multiplies the possibilities for users to afford the cost of booking, bringing the ability to travel even closer to everyone by offering options that better suit the circumstances of each passenger. The next phase reaffirms Air Europa’s commitment to innovation, with plans to add multiple payment options—starting with PayPal—enabling users to combine credit cards, PayPal, and debit cards when splitting payments and installment payments. Additionally, loyalty points will be introduced, allowing travellers to use points alongside other payment methods, further enhancing convenience and personalization in the customer experience.
‘We are very pleased to have these solutions in our online purchasing process. They represent a further step in the line we have set ourselves of helping the user to decide how they want their trip to be which is part of our campaign slogan ‘Tú Decides’ (You decide). The possibility of splitting payments between several people or cards makes shopping easier and further reduces the barriers to flying,’ says Yago Casasnovas, Head of Payments, Fraud Prevention and Distribution at Air Europa.
‘We are delighted with the results Air Europa can achieve by implementing Hands In solutions natively in its payment process. Our goal now is to continue to help the company deliver an excellent customer experience with other split payment innovations that can contribute to this goal,’ said Samuel Flynn, founder and CEO of Hands In.
