Adflex and Coupa Partner to Enhance and Automate Virtual Card B2B Payments

Adflex and Coupa have partnered to enhance and automate virtual card B2B payments, streamlining how enterprises manage supplier transactions. This collaboration brings together Adflex’s robust payment technology with Coupa’s Business Spend Management platform, offering businesses a faster, more secure way to handle high-volume payments while improving efficiency and financial control.

Adflex’s unique virtual card reader technology is now integrated into Coupa’s platform, enabling enhanced buyer-initiated B2B payments for Coupa customers. Previously, suppliers processed virtual card transactions manually, with the virtual card sent by email and raised by buyers within the Coupa platform. Adflex STP flips the traditional process on its head, removing manual entry requirements and reducing PCI-DSS scope. It enables card numbers to be read automatically from within emails, so that transactions can be processed without requiring any additional input from the supplier.

Adflex STP puts the buyer in control of when a payment is executed. Payment results are returned to Coupa to automate expense management and ensure remittances are issued efficiently to the supplier.

Bill Wardwell, SVP and GM, Coupa Pay and Treasury, commented: “We’re seeing a growing number of customers turn to virtual cards to pay suppliers—not just for convenience, but to unlock real strategic value: stronger cash flow, enhanced security, streamlined reconciliation, and meaningful rebate revenue. However, challenges around supplier acceptance and process integration often stand in the way of scaling these programs effectively.

“As a leading AI-driven platform, we’re pleased to partner with Adflex to fully automate the B2B payment process for Coupa customers and their suppliers. Virtual cards have the dual benefit of extending days payable outstanding (DPO), which maximises working capital, while minimising the supplier’s days sales outstanding (DSO) and removing the cost of cash collection – a ‘win-win’ for both parties. It also supports our mission to deliver responsible environmental stewardship, by reducing the demand for physical payment cards,” said Wardwell.

Andy Downman, Commercial Director at Adflex, added: “Adflex STP levels the playing field of digital B2B payments by delivering the benefits of prompt, secure and pain-free transactions to both buyer and supplier. As the first European processor to execute a straight-through processing transaction in partnership with an issuer, we are delighted to work with Coupa to continue making B2B payments digital and scalable, offering suppliers competitive merchant service rates that increase acceptance.”

The above service is exclusively available through Coupa and Adflex partner Barclaycard Payments in EMEA. Adflex continues to provide automated virtual card payments to all card issuers and their corporate clients.
