Scila Announces CTO Leadership Transition

Scila AB, a leading provider of market surveillance and risk management solutions for the financial industry, today announced a planned leadership transition. After 17 years in the role, Lydén is stepping down as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to transition to a new full-time position as Senior Technology Advisor, while fellow co-founder Björn Thornquist will assume the role of CTO. The change is effective immediately.

This strategic shift is designed to ensure Lydén’s deep technical expertise continues to drive innovation at the company, allowing him to focus on hands-on technology development.

“I am incredibly proud of what we have built at Scila,” says Fredrik Lydén. “After serving as CTO from day one, I feel a strong desire to return to the core of what I love—the technology itself. In my new full-time role as Senior Technology Advisor, I will continue to foster new developments, particularly in areas like AI where Scila already has a strong foundation. I am delighted to hand over the CTO responsibility to Björn, a trusted colleague, co-founder, and friend.”

A key figure in the company’s history, Björn Thornquist has been a driving force in the development of both the Scila Surveillance and Scila Risk solutions. Björn, who has served in the management team for several years as Chief Product Officer (CPO), is a highly respected leader internally and among clients. He has been the main architect behind Scila’s newest flagship offering, Scila Risk, a multi-asset, real-time risk management solution that recently celebrated a major milestone by successfully replacing two legacy risk systems at the leading actor on the Singapore Exchange with one single, unified platform.

“Scila is and will remain a frontrunner in the global market for surveillance and risk management systems,” states Björn Thornquist. “As a co-founder, I have been hands-on in a large part of our deliveries, and in recent years I have focused on our groundbreaking risk solution. Taking over the CTO responsibility from Fredrik feels natural, and I look forward to continuing to develop our strong position in surveillance and our go-to solution for risk management for leading banks and brokers in financial hubs globally.”

To support the company’s continued growth and to strengthen the leadership structure, Scila also announced a series of key appointments, effective immediately. Björn Thornquist’s previous role as Chief Product Officer (CPO) will be filled by Gustaf Gräns, who has been with Scila for 14 years and brings deep expertise in back-end development, data structures, and customer value, making him a natural fit for his new role in the management team. In addition, two newly created positions have been appointed: Mikael Ohlsson as Head of Product and Gustav Tano as Head of Operations. These new roles will further strengthen the company’s focus on ensuring continued customer success and adapting to the evolving needs of Scila’s growing customer base.

Mikko Andersson, CEO of Scila, says he is confident in the new structure. “I want to sincerely thank Fredrik for his leadership as CTO over almost two decades. His vision has been foundational to Scila’s success. This transition is not a departure but a strategic repositioning of his talent. We are all appreciative and excited to have him continue to contribute in his new full-time role as Senior Technology Advisor. Björn is the perfect successor, and his deep technical expertise and understanding of the market make him an invaluable asset to our leadership team.”

“We are also pleased to congratulate Gustaf as he joins the management team as CPO, as well as Mikael and Gustav on their new roles, recognizing their significant contributions to Scila’s development over the past decade. Their long-standing commitment and deep expertise will be crucial as we continue to evolve our offerings and drive growth,” Andersson concludes.
