Morrison Foerster Adds Financial Services and Fintech Partner Dan Jones, Further Strengthening the Firm’s Financial Regulatory Platform
Morrison Foerster, a leading global law firm, is pleased to announce the addition of Dan Jones, who joins the firm as a partner in its Financial Services and Fintech Groups, within the Transactions Department. Jones’ arrival adds significant experience across all aspects of UK and European financial services regulation, alongside regulatory licensing and M&A regulatory due diligence.
Jones brings a broad financial regulation practice to Morrison Foerster, advising financial services and technology clients, from startups and scale-ups to established institutions, across a full suite of financial regulatory matters. His experience includes advising on general regulatory compliance mandates, strategic transactions such as change of control filings, regulatory investigations and responses, and cross-border regulatory advisory work. He has also represented companies looking to expand into the UK, EU, and U.S., and has additional experience advising marketplace and e-commerce payments platforms and assisting in securing regulatory licenses. He advises clients operating across the financial services and technology sectors, including global retail and investment banks, asset managers, e-money issuers and payment services providers, and crypto-asset issuers, wallets, and exchanges.
“Dan’s arrival represents a significant and strategic step forward in meeting growing client demand for top-tier counsel on financial services and fintech regulatory compliance, product development, and strategic transactions across our geographic footprint,” said Jeremy Mandell, co-chair of Morrison Foerster’s Financial Services Group. “Dan’s practice aligns well with our global platform, and we expect his arrival, alongside the recent addition of Josh Kaplan, to establish MoFo as a destination practice for UK and EU financial services and fintech regulation.”
“Dan represents another significant investment into London and our global financial services and fintech practices,” added Andrew Boyd, London co-office managing partner at Morrison Foerster. “He brings a top-class track record advising across the full spectrum of financial services and fintech mandates, with clear synergies with MoFo’s own strengths, alongside an enormous opportunity to collaborate across practices with our Corporate M&A, PE, White Collar, and Technology Transactions practices. We look forward to welcoming him to the firm.”
This month, Morrison Foerster additionally welcomed Joshua Kaplan in London, another leading Financial Services and Fintech Group partner who added further cross-border fintech and financial services capabilities, with particular emphasis on advising clients across the full life cycle of financial regulatory matters, from early-stage companies targeting the U.S. market and global expansion, to well-established financial institutions requiring counsel across a complex, increasingly cross-border regulatory landscape. Morrison Foerster also welcomed Financial Services partner Avy Mallik, based in San Francisco, this month. Mallik, a former general counsel of the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation, brings to the firm significant government credentials, coupled with deep subject matter experience in financial regulation, fintech, and digital assets, and meaningfully expands the firm’s West Coast financial regulatory and enforcement capabilities.
These hires follow the addition of Financial Services and Fintech partners Alexandra Steinberg Barrage and Matthew Bornfreund in Washington, D.C. in June 2025. Jones’ arrival represents the fourth in London in recent months, following the addition of Private Equity partner David D’Souza, Leveraged Finance partner Ambarish Dash in July 2025, and Kaplan.
“I am excited to join Morrison Foerster’s preeminent financial services and fintech practice. The firm has a clear commitment to servicing clients at the forefront of innovation in financial services and technology sectors, which complements my own background and client base,” said Jones. “There is an enormous opportunity to grow my practice on MoFo’s platform. I look forward to working alongside Josh, Jeremy, Jeff, and others as we continue to grow the go-to financial services and fintech practice in the UK and Europe for clients across our global network.”
Prior to joining Morrison Foerster, Jones was a partner at a U.S.-based global law firm, and he has experience working within the legal function of one of the “Big Four” consulting firms. He holds an undergraduate LL.B. from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and completed his LPC with the Moorgate College of Law. His qualified to practice in England & Wales.
