Bir Launches Azerbaijan’s First In-App Sign Language Feature in Banking

The Bir ecosystem announced today that Birbank, whose mobile banking application is ranked No.1 by Google Play in Azerbaijan, has rolled out a new in-app video call service with sign language support to ensure accessibility for customers with hearing and speech impairments.

The Sign Language Video Call feature, first piloted in Q3, 2025 and continuously enhanced since then, is the first initiative of its kind in the banking sector in Azerbaijan. It sets a new benchmark for inclusive customer experience by building sign language support into a fully digital banking environment, ensuring that accessibility is not treated as an add-on, but as a natural part of the customer experience.

Birbank is part of Bir, the first fully integrated banking, payments and e-commerce ecosystem of the Caucasus. Besides Birbank, it unites Azerbaijan’s leading brands such as Birmarket e-commerce platform, Milliön payment terminals and m10 e-wallet app under the Bir umbrella, reaching over 5 million users.

Javid Mirzayev, Head of Fintech at Bir ecosystem, commented:

“Expanding access to digital financial services is a key priority for us. Launching this inclusive feature reflects our broader mission to shape new habits and help fuel Azerbaijan’s transition to the digital economy of the future. By embedding sign language support directly into the Birbank app, we are ensuring that digital banking and broader tech innovation benefits everyone.”

Maxim Evdokimov, Chief Product, Marketing & Customer Experience Officer at Bir ecosystem, added:

“At Bir, we design our products around real customer needs, and accessibility is an essential part of that process. With this in-app sign-language supported feature, we are ensuring that customers with hearing and speech impairments can communicate with the bank easily and confidently. This rollout reflects our broader approach to product development – using technology to remove barriers and create a seamless digital banking experience for millions of users.”

Through its extensive ecosystem and strategic partnerships with Trendyol marketplace and BakiKart transportation payment solution, Bir is building the foundation for the first and largest digital ecosystem for consumers and businesses in Azerbaijan, the South Caucasus nation at the crossroads of Europe and Asia. Bir’s strategy is to continue to deepen fintech and e-commerce penetration, converting that customer base and frequency into broader ecosystem usage.

The Birbank in-app feature reflects Bir’s commitment to combining technological innovation with social impact, ensuring that digital transformation expands access to essential daily services for all people across Azerbaijan.
