Ripple and Securitize Enable RLUSD Smart Contract Functionality for BlackRock’s BUIDL and VanEck’s VBILL Tokenized Funds
Ripple, the leading provider of digital asset infrastructure for financial institutions, and Securitize, the leading platform for tokenizing real-world assets, today announced a smart contract that would allow holders of BlackRock’s BUIDL and VanEck’s VBILL to exchange their shares to Ripple for Ripple USD (RLUSD). This smart contract adds an additional stablecoin off ramp for BUIDL and VBILL tokenized short term treasury funds.
BlackRock’s USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund (“BUIDL”) and VanEck’s Treasury Fund, Ltd. (“VBILL”) represent both firms’ first tokenized funds issued on public blockchains. With this smart contract, BUIDL and VBILL holders can instantly exchange their shares for RLUSD 24/7, unlocking additional stable, on-chain transfers. Investors gain continuous exposure to RLUSD while preserving exposure to on-chain yield and a broader range of DeFi strategies further driving utility, flexibility and interoperability for tokenized assets. RLUSD for BUIDL is available now, with VBILL supported over the coming days.
“Making RLUSD available as an exchange option for tokenized funds is a natural next step as we continue to bridge traditional finance and crypto,” said Jack McDonald, SVP of Stablecoins at Ripple. “RLUSD is for institutional use, offering regulatory clarity, stability, and real utility. As adoption grows, partnerships with trusted platforms like Securitize are key to unlocking new liquidity and enterprise-grade use cases.”
RLUSD is a trusted, enterprise-grade stablecoin designed with regulatory compliance, utility, and transparency at its core. RLUSD has been purpose-built for enterprise utility, particularly in improving the speed, cost and efficiency of financial applications.
This marks the first integration of RLUSD into Securitize’s platform, with additional use cases and assets planned. Securitize is also integrating with the XRP Ledger (XRPL) to expand access and bring new utility to the XRPL ecosystem.
“Partnering with Ripple to integrate RLUSD into our tokenization infrastructure is a major step forward in automating liquidity for tokenized assets,” said Carlos Domingo, Co-Founder and CEO of Securitize. “Together, we’re delivering real-time settlement and programmable liquidity across a new class of compliant, on-chain investment products—bringing the full potential of blockchain to institutional finance.”
With stringent safeguards including 1:1 USD backing by high-quality liquid assets, strict reserve management and asset segregation, third-party attestations and clear redemption rights, RLUSD is designed to meet the highest expectations of institutional users and regulators. RLUSD is issued under a New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) Trust Company Charter, underscoring its regulatory rigor. Since launching in late 2024, RLUSD has gained adoption across DeFi platforms and liquidity pools, is integrated into Ripple’s cross-border payment solution, supports seamless on- and off-ramps into the crypto ecosystem, and has surpassed $700 million in market capitalization.
