CEO Describes ATMIA’s Plan for 2018 European Events

ATMIA today released a statement clarifying its planned European conferences for 2018 following scheduling clashes in 2017 between similar events in the ATM industry.

Our new plan responds to requests from members to avoid having perceived similar events taking place in similar locations during the same time period,” explained Mike Lee, CEO of ATMIA. “Since the breakup of our previous conference partnership, we have been seeking a solution to this scheduling problem arising from competing events occurring close together.

ATMIA’s solution is to switch the association’s annual security conference in 2018 into the June time-frame and shift its main European conference out into the later September-October  period, thus creating a six month separation on the calendar between events seen in some quarters as similar. In addition, ATMIA will consult with its European members about hosting the main conference on the European mainland in 2018.

We continue to offer the olive branch to our former conference partners,” Lee added. “We would be happy to hold joint planning meetings in January 2018 for the 2019 conference schedule.”

This plan for 2018 means that ATMIA’s “ATM & Payments Security” conference will now take place from 12th-13th June 2018 at the Lancaster, London while the main conference for Europe will take place in the September-October period, possibly on the European mainland.

ATMIA made strenuous attempts to bring about the situation where there would only be two events in 2018 between the former conference partners, instead of four,” Ron Delnevo, Executive Director, ATMIA Europe, stated. “But our comprehensive proposal was turned down. Switching our 2018 events around like this was the only option left. What members and stakeholders should consider is that these two planned events in Europe are going to be the only industry association events in this important region in 2018.”
