Banking Circle Appoints Patrick Green as Chief Compliance Officer as Global Expansion Accelerates

Banking Circle today announces the appointment of Patrick Green as Chief Compliance Officer, reinforcing a key leadership step as the bank expands into new markets, regulatory regimes, and client segments globally.

As Chief Compliance Officer, Patrick will lead Banking Circle’s global compliance strategy, overseeing financial crime and regulatory compliance in multiple international jurisdictions as the group continues to scale its banking infrastructure. In this role, he will focus on strengthening a unified compliance framework that supports consistent, scalable risk management.

This includes further embedding a data-led, risk-based approach, enhancing transparency around risk appetite for both clients and internal teams, and supporting Banking Circle’s expansion into areas such as digital assets and stablecoin-based settlement. He will also drive the continued adoption of AI to enhance efficiency and effectiveness across compliance operations.

Patrick assumed the role on 1 May 2026. He brings more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. He was previously Banking Circle’s Head of AML & UK MLRO, having joined the company as Head of Client Onboarding in 2020. During his time at Banking Circle, he has transformed onboarding from a paper-based process into a fully automated, technology-driven solution, scaled the global KYC/AML function from 50 to over 100 professionals, and accelerated the adoption of AI-led initiatives across AML operations.

Prior to joining Banking Circle, Patrick spent 12 years at Barclays, where he held a range of roles across relationship management, client onboarding, and cash management. During his tenure, he developed deep expertise in banking operations and risk, and played a key role in building Barclays’ financial institutions onboarding capabilities.

Outgoing Chief Compliance Officer Björn Krog Andersen will take on commercial responsibility for Banking Circle’s expansion in the UAE, leading market entry and growth for the bank’s core platform as well as future products in the region.

Having played a key role in extending Banking Circle’s capabilities into new regulated areas, Björn brings strong regulatory experience alongside proven commercial judgement and deep market relationships. His remit will be to establish scale and long‑term momentum as Banking Circle expands its presence across the Middle East.

Patrick Green, Chief Compliance Officer at Banking Circle, said: “Banking Circle has built a strong foundation in compliance, and I’m excited to take this to the next level as we continue to scale globally. My focus will be on ensuring our framework remains robust, transparent and proportionate, while enabling clients to operate with confidence in increasingly complex environments. This is a critical moment for the industry, and Banking Circle is well positioned to lead through innovation and collaboration.”

Laust Bertelsen, CEO at Banking Circle, said: “Patrick’s appointment reflects our continued investment in leadership that can support Banking Circle’s expansion into new markets and regulatory regimes. His experience building scalable, risk‑based compliance frameworks is critical as we grow our international platform and deepen our role as a trusted banking partner to regulated financial institutions.”

Patrick’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for both Banking Circle and the wider financial services industry, as companies navigate increasingly complex challenges, including fraud prevention, geopolitical risk, sanctions compliance, the rise of digital assets, and the introduction of new regulatory bodies such as the EU’s Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA).
