Amalgamated Bank of Chicago Introduces New Credit Card for Union Workers and Supporters

Amalgamated Bank of Chicago honors its union roots and the hard workers behind them with the introduction of its Union Strong credit card featuring low interest rates and the iconic Diego Rivera mural, “Paean to Labor and Industry,” on the card imagery.

Founded by the Amalgamated Clothing Workers Union in 1922, Amalgamated Bank of Chicago was built to meet the banking and financial needs of organized labor. Beginning on Labor Day, the Union Strong credit card will be available to union members and supporters with the new design option of Rivera’s poignant artwork. Rivera was a revolutionary Mexican artist and while he later became a controversial politician, his paintings and murals were known for reflecting the lives and trials of the working class.

Our founding is deeply tied to America’s working people, and we’ve remained devoted to that community for nearly 100 years,” said Jeff Stenberg, Senior Vice President/Bankcard at Amalgamated. “Our credit cards combine competitive pricing with generous and flexible rewards, but they also allow union members to show their union pride. That’s why we’re so excited to offer this unique design featuring Diego Rivera’sfamous mural.”

As part of Amalgamated’s Union Advantage program, the Bank provides high-quality products and services to a wide variety of unions. The Union Strong credit card offers:

  • Low interest rates (0% intro APR for the first 12 months, after that an APR of 10.25%);
  • Unlimited reward points that do not expire (10,000 bonus points after $1,000 spend within the first 90 days from opening an account, 1 point earned for every $1 spent);
  • No annual fee; and
  • Zero fraud liability and access to mobile account servicing, and late payments do not result in repricing.

To this day, Amalgamated remains one of only a handful of U.S. banks devoted to the labor community. For almost a century, the Bank has designed deposit and credit services exclusively for union workers in the automobile, building trades, clothing and textile, communications and graphic arts, hotel and restaurant, mechanics, public service and general service, steel and iron, transportation industries, and more.
