11Onze launches in-person new education series “Fintech Talks” to drive discussion on money matters and cryptocurrencies
Community fintech 11Onze has launched a new education series – Fintech Talks – to drive discussion on “money matters” by focusing on fintech trends and its ecosystem.
In association with Monday, a network of coworking spaces in Barcelona, 11Onze kicked off the in-person event this month with an interview with its Chief Technology Officer Raul Aribas, who shared his insight into the fascinating world of cryptocurrencies, its strengths and challenges.
Declaring that we are witnessing a paradigm shift in terms of how we spend money, he explained to an audience of over 1,000 executives and start-ups that “cryptocurrencies are a type of money that is more protected in the digital environment because they use blockchain technology.”
Furthermore, he added, “Conventional electronic money is not entirely ours. “
“Afterall, If I want to make a transfer, the bank has to authorise it, if I want to pay in a restaurant, I won’t be able to pay if Visa or Mastercard doesn’t validate that card…However, with cryptocurrencies, on the other hand, there is no one to stop me from sending money to someone else,”
“This is because cryptocurrencies do not have a central institution that decides what can be done and what can’t. This is a very important paradigm shift,” Aribas explained.
Delighted by the overwhelming response from the community, 11Onze Chairman James Séne noted, “The event was oversubscribed. It goes to show how much of an appetite people have for issues around money and finance.
“One of the key pillars of 11Onze is to offer financial literacy. We will constantly look at using innovative and stimulating channels to make this happen. After our successful launch of La Plaça which has over 10,000 loyal subscribers, we are taking our financial education on issues including crypto currencies to a wider community of young professionals, SMEs and executives via our Fintech Talks.”
Xavi Bassons, CEO and co-founder of Monday working spaces, who moderates the talk show alongside 11Onze’s Gemma Vallet, said, “To make informed decisions about how we save and spend money, it’s important that we get financially literate. It is also important that we get that information from credible sources. We are delighted to partner with 11Onze to offer a space for advocating financial literacy.”
“11Onze Fintech Talks is a very popular event and is the first in a series of financial literacy programmes that we plan to run,” concluded, Gemma Vallet, 11Onze CMO
