Wórkiro Launches AI-Powered Workflows to Automate MTD Compliance for Accounting Firms
By Lauren Towner · 24 August 2026

Wórkiro has launched a new Workflows module to automate document hand-offs and multi-step client jobs for accounting firms. As Making Tax Digital for Income Tax increases the frequency of client interactions, this release provides fintech professionals with a scalable way to manage high-volume compliance tasks without increasing administrative headcount.
What was announced
The new Workflows module is designed to automate the lifecycle of recurring accounting tasks, such as VAT returns, management accounts, and year-end filings. Available immediately to all existing customers at no extra cost, the tool allows firms to build repeatable "recipes" that define specific steps, assignees, and outcomes. When a task is initiated, the system automatically routes documents to the relevant internal staff or external client contacts, creating a self-building evidence trail for compliance purposes.
Three core features define the module’s functionality. First, client-facing steps are integrated directly into the firm’s internal workflow, allowing clients to provide approvals or upload documents without exposure to the firm’s internal routing logic. Second, the platform utilizes AI to generate plain-English summaries of closed tasks, detailing key activities to assist in rapid handovers. Third, the module integrates with existing practice management and accounting software, including Xero and TaxCalc. These integrations allow workflows to be triggered by external system events and write status updates back to those platforms, eliminating the need for manual data entry.
Early adoption data indicates significant efficiency gains. Serenity Accounting & Bookkeeping reported reclaiming over 400 hours annually, while Ketton Wealth reduced document approval times from seven days to approximately one hour. This addresses a broader industry trend identified in the 2025 Future Ready Accountant report, which found that 73% of European firms struggle to complete work accurately and on time.
"Jobs rarely go wrong on the technical work. They go wrong at the hand-off, when a step sits with the wrong person and the client hears silence. Workflows moves each step to the right person automatically. And when the job closes, it tells you how it actually went, not just that it finished. That record is how a firm gets better."
Dave Owen, President of Wórkiro.
The companies involved
Wórkiro is a document management and workflow platform specifically tailored for regulated firms. The company manages over 1 billion documents and serves a user base of more than 65,000 professionals. It maintains SOC 2 Type 2 certification, reflecting its focus on security within the professional services sector. Wórkiro is a subsidiary of GetBusy plc, a specialist in document management and productivity software that is publicly traded on the London Stock Exchange.
The platform operates within a wider ecosystem of accounting and financial technology providers. It maintains active integrations with major industry players including Xero, a cloud-based accounting platform, and TaxCalc, a provider of taxation and accounts software. Other supported integrations include IRIS, CCH (a Wolters Kluwer business), and the Microsoft 365 suite. These connections are critical for firms navigating the regulatory requirements set by HMRC, particularly the ongoing transition toward Making Tax Digital, which mandates digital record-keeping and more frequent reporting intervals for taxpayers and their agents.
What FF News has reported before
FF News has previously tracked the development of automation tools within the professional services market, including the initial announcement that Workiro Launches Automated Workflows to Streamline Repeatable Business Processes. Our coverage has also touched on the broader infrastructure supporting these digital shifts, such as the London Stock Exchange, where Wórkiro’s parent company is listed, and the role of Microsoft in providing the underlying productivity frameworks that many fintech tools now integrate with to ensure seamless user experiences.
What this means
This move places significant pressure on traditional practice management suites that have historically treated document storage and workflow as separate, manual silos. By integrating AI-generated summaries and client-facing portals directly into the automated chain, Wórkiro is moving the needle from simple "storage" to "active management." The industry now faces a clear divide: firms that rely on manual chasing and those that use automated triggers to meet the compressed deadlines of Making Tax Digital. The primary question for the sector is whether standalone workflow tools can maintain their edge as major accounting platforms like Xero and IRIS continue to build out their own native automation capabilities.
