Starling Group Revs Its Engine With Hiring Spree and New London HQ

Engine by Starling opened its new London HQ this week, creating space for the Starling Group’s Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) business to hire more than 150 new colleagues. The new HQ, at 199 Bishopsgate, will support more than 300 engineering, delivery and client services experts once the team is fully grown.

The move follows Engine’s signing of its biggest deal to date; a ten year agreement to help Tangerine Bank in Canada upgrade its core banking infrastructure. Engine also powers AMP Bank GO in Australia and Salt Bank in Romania, and has opened international offices in Sydney, Dubai, Toronto and New York.

“Thanks to our global footprint, Engine is well on track to scale into a business generating £100m of annual recurring revenue. London sits at the heart of our operations, and is where our proprietary tech stack was built. It therefore makes perfect sense to expand our headcount and launch our new HQ in the City,” said Sam Everington, CEO of Engine by Starling.

Engine previously shared the Starling Group’s HQ at the Fruit and Wool Exchange in Spitalfields, where the company acquired more space in November as it continues to grow.

The bank's growth includes its engineering and data science teams, which have delivered a number of UK-first AI tools this year, including Scam Intelligence, a scam detection tool endorsed by the UK fraud minister Lord Hanson, and Spending Intelligence, which lets customers query their spending history with voice and natural language.
