Ramp has officially launched its corporate finance platform in the UK, marking its first major expansion outside North America. For fintech professionals, this move signals a significant escalation in the competition for European spend management, as the $44 billion unicorn brings AI-driven automation and regulated payments capability to one of the world’s most mature financial hubs.

What was announced

Ramp is bringing its full suite of financial tools—including corporate cards, expense management, bill payments, procurement, and treasury—to UK-based businesses. The launch follows a successful beta phase with local customers such as AI voice platform ElevenLabs and CRM provider Attio. To facilitate this move, Ramp acquired Billhop, a Stockholm and London-based payments platform, in March 2026. This acquisition provided Ramp with the necessary regulatory payments authorisation to operate in both the UK and the European Union.

A core component of the UK offering is a partnership with Visa to power corporate cards, combining Ramp’s spend management software with Visa’s global network. Ramp is also leaning heavily into AI-specific financial controls. With AI spending growing 21x among its user base since June 2025, the platform now includes "token spend management" to track usage-based costs across different providers and models. Other recent product additions include Ramp Stack, an AI operating system for accounting firms, and "Router," a tool designed to reduce inference costs by matching requests to the lowest-cost AI model. The company reports that its median customer saves 5% on expenses and sees 16% revenue growth within their first year. Currently, Ramp processes over $200 billion in annual purchases for more than 70,000 organisations globally, including Shopify and Virgin Voyages.

"The UK is one of the world's most dynamic markets for business payments and fintech innovation, making it an exciting next step for Ramp's international growth. At Visa, we're proud to partner with Ramp to transform B2B payments at scale. Together, we're helping UK businesses access smarter financial solutions, to unlock new growth in the digital economy."

The companies involved

Founded in 2019, Ramp has rapidly ascended to become a dominant force in the North American spend management sector. The company recently solidified its market position with a $750 million funding round in June, which valued the business at $44 billion. Its entry into the UK follows a strategic expansion into Canada earlier in the summer of 2026. Ramp positions itself as a smart financial infrastructure provider, aiming to automate the process of closing books and processing reimbursements.

The acquisition of Billhop was pivotal for this expansion. Billhop, which has a presence in both London and Stockholm, provided the regulatory infrastructure required to operate as a payments entity in Europe. Partnering with Visa further anchors Ramp’s presence in the region. Visa is a global leader in digital payments, maintaining a vast network that supports billions of transactions. Within the fintech ecosystem, Visa frequently acts as a foundational partner for high-growth platforms looking to scale corporate card programmes. This collaboration combines Ramp’s proprietary software layer with Visa’s established global payments network, positioning the duo to challenge incumbent providers in the British commercial card market.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has tracked Ramp’s steady progression as it integrates with major financial players. Recently, we reported on how Robinhood Scales Global Finance Operations with Ramp Integration, highlighting the platform's utility for high-growth tech firms. Our extensive coverage of the payments sector also includes Visa’s broader strategic moves, such as the Visa and IFC Partner on $200M Initiative to Drive Global Financial Inclusion. While Ramp is a relatively new entrant to our European coverage with 26 previous stories, its acquisition of Billhop—a company FF News has also monitored—marks a clear shift from a North American specialist to a global contender in the automated finance space.

What this means

Ramp’s arrival in London puts immediate pressure on established European spend management players like Revolut Business, Pleo, and Payhawk. By leading with AI token spend management, Ramp is addressing a specific, modern pain point that traditional ERPs and first-generation fintechs have yet to fully solve. The volatility of usage-based AI costs represents a significant "blind spot" for finance teams, and Ramp’s ability to categorise these as COGS versus OpEx is a sophisticated differentiator. However, the UK market is notoriously crowded; success will depend on whether Ramp’s automation can truly deliver the promised efficiency gains in a different regulatory and tax environment.
