Payouts.com and the Casper Association have partnered to launch x402 agent payments into production, addressing a critical friction point in the autonomous economy. For fintech professionals, this represents a shift from human-initiated transactions to machine-to-machine commerce, enabling AI agents to settle B2B obligations natively using stablecoins rather than borrowed human credentials.

What was announced

The partnership integrates the Casper Network as a settlement rail for the Payouts.com AgentWallet and Digital Employees platform. Casper is the first WebAssembly-native Layer 1 blockchain to run x402 on its mainnet. Because Payouts.com already supports x402 natively, the integration functions without requiring protocol changes on either side.

The technical foundation of this collaboration is the x402 protocol, which utilizes the long-dormant HTTP "402 Payment Required" status code to create a native payment step for machines. This allows AI agents—which are increasingly tasked with researching, negotiating, and calling paid APIs—to execute transactions independently. Gartner predicts that by 2028, these agents could intermediate more than $15 trillion in B2B spend.

Settlement is handled via csprUSD, the native stablecoin of the Casper ecosystem. This provides a stable, programmable, and enforceable on-chain asset, ensuring agents pay for services in dollar-equivalent values rather than volatile cryptocurrencies. Payouts.com provides the essential governance layer, allowing businesses to set controls on what an agent can spend and under what conditions, while Casper provides the underlying settlement and on-chain enforcement. The implementation is currently underway and will roll out in phases over the coming months.

"Every era of the internet needed a payment layer before it could support real commerce. The browser got the credit card form. The smartphone got the in-app purchase. AI agents are the next buyers on the internet, and until now they've been transacting with borrowed human credentials. Payouts.com built the control layer for it; Casper built the settlement layer, with csprUSD as the currency agents actually transact in. Together, that's a complete stack for agent payments."

Michael Steuer, President & CTO, Casper Association.

The companies involved

Payouts.com functions as a financial operating system designed for both human users and AI agents. The company focuses on providing the governance and control infrastructure necessary for modern businesses to manage complex payment flows. It has previously engaged in expanding regional payment capabilities, such as developing local rails for specific markets like India.

The Casper Association is a Swiss non-profit organization responsible for the stewardship of the Casper Network. The Casper Network itself is a Layer 1 blockchain built on WebAssembly, designed to provide the scalability and security required for enterprise-grade applications. By focusing on regulated and compliance-minded businesses, the Casper ecosystem aims to provide infrastructure that meets the rigorous standards of corporate finance. The introduction of csprUSD serves as a cornerstone for this ecosystem, providing a reliable unit of account for on-chain transactions. Gartner, a global research and advisory firm, provides the market projections that underpin the scale of this emerging autonomous agent economy.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has previously tracked the growth of the AI and automated payments sector. In August 2026, we covered how Payfuture and Payouts.com Partner to Launch Local Payment Rails for India Payouts, highlighting the company's focus on expanding settlement infrastructure. Our reporting has also touched on the broader AI shift in financial services, including when Brightfin Appoints Preeti Shukla as Chief Product and AI Officer to Drive AI-Native ITFM Strategy. What this means

This announcement signals that the "Agentic Web" is moving out of the experimental phase and into the settlement layer of the global economy. By reviving the 402 status code, Payouts.com and Casper are challenging the dominance of traditional credit card rails, which were never designed for the high-velocity, micro-transaction needs of AI. The industry is now under pressure to solve the "identity vs. payment" problem; if an agent can pay, it must also be governed. This move places significant pressure on legacy payment processors to develop machine-native APIs or risk losing a projected $15 trillion market to blockchain-based stablecoin rails that offer superior programmability and lower friction for non-human actors.
