Open Banking: Not Just Access, But Orchestration
By Dominic Sow · 11 September 2025

Tristán Torres Velat, Chief Commercial Officer at PayRetailers said: “Open banking has been talked about for years, but the real challenge isn’t opening the APIs, it’s orchestrating them. Banks, fintechs, and tech platforms now have access to more data than ever, but turning that into connected, intelligent experiences is another story.
“In practice, open banking is exposing just how fragmented financial services still remain across Latin America. It’s easy to celebrate the fact that an API exists; it’s much harder to make it work for real people and businesses, in real time, across multiple markets.
“The conversation needs to move from simple access to designing flows that actually function in context. Success won’t be measured by the number of integrations or dashboards, but by how frictionless, intelligent, and actionable those connections become. If we don’t orchestrate the plumbing, all the open data in the world won’t make life easier for users, or merchants.”
