Press Release: Ondato and Trinsic Partner to Bridge EUDI Wallet Verification for Regulated Businesses | Featured Image by FF News

Compliance technology provider Ondato has partnered with Trinsic to integrate EU Digital Identity Wallet verification into its platform. This move prepares regulated financial institutions for the eIDAS 2.0 mandate, which requires all 27 EU member states to offer digital wallets by late 2026 and mandates their acceptance by banks by December 2027.

What was announced

The partnership establishes Trinsic as the infrastructure provider behind Ondato’s new digital identity capability. This integration is designed to help regulated businesses navigate the requirements of eIDAS 2.0 (Regulation (EU) 2024/1183). Under this regulation, every EU member country must provide at least one government-issued or recognised digital identity wallet to its citizens by the end of 2026. These mobile applications allow individuals to share verified personal information voluntarily when interacting with businesses.

By December 2027, the mandate shifts from provision to acceptance. Banks, financial institutions, and other regulated entities that require strong user authentication will be legally required to accept these wallets for customer verification upon request. Ondato is incorporating EUDI wallet acceptance into its broader customer intelligence platform, positioning it alongside existing national identity methods like Smart-ID. The functionality is built to feed directly into Ondato’s existing ecosystem, including risk scoring, continuous fraud monitoring, and automated detection systems. This ensures that as wallets are rolled out across the 27 member states, businesses can maintain a unified view of customer risk and fraud protection within a single interface, rather than managing disparate verification streams for each national wallet.

"EU digital identity wallets are the biggest change in a generation to how Europeans prove who they are. For many regulated businesses, accepting them won't be optional. With Trinsic, our clients can accept wallets as they launch, on the same platform they already use for verification, risk and monitoring. It's another step in our expansion as the intelligence layer between businesses and their customers, in Europe and beyond."

The companies involved

Ondato is a compliance technology provider that offers an all-in-one platform for identity, risk management, and the customer journey. Its suite covers identity verification (IDV), Know Your Customer (KYC) protocols, Anti-Money Laundering (AML) checks, and age verification for regulated sectors. The company positions itself as an intelligence layer that sits between businesses and their customers to streamline onboarding and monitoring processes.

Trinsic acts as a digital identity gateway and infrastructure provider for identity verification. The company has focused on the European Digital Identity (EUDI) mandate since its early phases and currently supports national identity authentication services for several member states, including France, Italy, Denmark, and Austria. As the technical backbone for Ondato’s new capability, Trinsic provides the necessary gateway technology to interface with various government-issued digital wallets across the European Union. Both companies operate as independent entities in the identity and compliance market, with Ondato focusing on the end-to-end compliance journey and Trinsic providing the underlying identity infrastructure.

What FF News has reported before

Ondato has been a frequent subject of coverage regarding its expansion of automated compliance tools. In late 2025, the company introduced Ondato Launches AML Ranger: AI Assistant Tool Automating Real-Time AML Compliance, an AI-driven tool designed to automate real-time monitoring. This followed a significant partnership where Ondato and VIALET Join Forces to Strengthen KYC and Compliance to enhance onboarding security.

Earlier reporting highlighted the company's integration into the broader banking ecosystem, such as when Skaleet joins forces with Ondato to accelerate the development of new banking services in 2023. Additionally, the firm has collaborated with other risk-focused fintechs, evidenced by when AMLYZE Partners With Ondato to Help Financial Institutions Match Businesses Growth With Risk Exposure to align business growth with compliance requirements.

What this means

The eIDAS 2.0 mandate represents a fundamental shift in the power dynamics of identity verification. For years, the burden of verifying a customer fell entirely on the private sector; now, the European Union is effectively nationalising the "source of truth" through digital wallets. This puts immense pressure on traditional KYC providers whose business models rely on manual document review or proprietary data sets. If a bank is legally required to accept a government-verified wallet, the traditional "photo of a passport" method becomes a secondary, more friction-heavy option. The industry must now solve the challenge of interoperability, as businesses will need to accept dozens of different national wallet implementations while maintaining a consistent risk framework.
