Episode Six Debuts Real-Time 'Verified Backing' for Bank-Issued Tokenized Deposits
By Lauren Towner · 16 October 2026

Episode Six has launched Verified Backing, a real-time verification tool for its Token Control Ledger designed to secure bank-issued tokenized deposits and stablecoins. By validating assets at the points of issuance and redemption, the technology addresses the critical risk of counterfeit digital assets entering circulation, providing a necessary safeguard for financial institutions adopting blockchain-based money.
What was announced
Episode Six introduced Verified Backing as an integrated feature of the E6 Token Control Ledger. The tool is designed specifically for banks moving into tokenized deposits and stablecoins, providing a real-time check on the status and backing of these digital assets. Unlike traditional reconciliation processes that assess a bank’s position retrospectively, Verified Backing operates at the two most critical moments in a token's lifecycle: when it is created and when it is presented for redemption.
The system functions by checking tokens against their recorded backing at the moment of issuance to ensure they are fully collateralized from the start. Upon redemption, the tool confirms the token is genuine, still outstanding, and has the required backing before any cash is released. This process is intended to work regardless of how many wallets or blockchain networks the token may have moved through between its creation and its return to the bank. It runs bank-side, inside the E6 Token Control Ledger, and applies to any token a bank issues itself.
Episode Six compares this shift in digital asset security to the evolution of card payments from magnetic stripes to EMV chip and pin technology. While older methods relied on static swipes that could not distinguish a genuine card from a copy, Verified Backing introduces a dynamic, real-time check at the moment of the transaction. The feature is available now as part of the E6 Token Control Ledger for Episode Six’s customers globally across all markets where the company operates.
"For risk and compliance teams, the hardest question in tokenized money isn’t whether a token was genuine when it was created. It’s whether it’s still genuine by the time it’s redeemed,"
Daryn Griggs, Episode Six’s Managing Director of APAC
The companies involved
Episode Six is a global technology provider specializing in enterprise-grade card issuing and ledger infrastructure. The company provides the underlying systems that allow financial institutions and brands to manage payments and digital assets according to their own operating models. Its core offering, the E6 Token Control Ledger, serves as a system of record for banks to issue and manage tokenized money. The company’s leadership includes CEO and Co-Founder John Mitchell and Daryn Griggs, who serves as Managing Director for the Asia Pacific and Japan region.
Episode Six has established a significant presence in the fintech market, attracting investment and partnerships from major industry players. The company's ecosystem involves relationships with diverse entities including SBI Investment Co Ltd, Athos Capital, and Avenir. It also operates within a broader financial landscape that includes major global banks like HSBC and payment networks such as Mastercard, as well as non-financial partners like Japan Airlines. The company's focus remains on providing the infrastructure required for the next generation of banking, particularly as tokenized assets become a more prominent component of institutional operations.
What this means
The introduction of real-time verification for tokenized deposits moves the industry away from the retrospective reconciliation model that has characterized much of early blockchain experimentation. For banks, the primary hurdle to scaling stablecoins or tokenized deposits is the liability associated with redemption. If a bank cannot guarantee that a token is genuine after it has traversed multiple third-party wallets, the risk of counterfeit redemption becomes a significant balance sheet threat. This announcement places pressure on other ledger providers to move beyond simple issuance and provide more robust, real-time risk management tools that can handle the complexities of multi-chain circulation.
