First Abu Dhabi Bank Hosts Second SpeakEasy Forum to Drive Enterprise AI Adoption in UAE
By Lauren Towner · 17 August 2026

First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB) is shifting the regional artificial intelligence conversation from theoretical potential to operational reality. By convening over 70 technology specialists at the DIFC, the bank is addressing the critical "last mile" of AI adoption—moving beyond isolated pilots to achieve enterprise-scale integration within the highly regulated financial services sector.
What was announced
On 23 July, First Abu Dhabi Bank hosted the second edition of SpeakEasy at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). This practitioner-led forum brought together a diverse group of engineers, coders, data scientists, and AI enthusiasts to tackle the theme "From AI hype to enterprise reality." The event focused on the transition from experimental AI projects to becoming "agentic enterprises," where intelligent technologies are embedded into day-to-day operations to deliver measurable business value.
The discussions moved past the surface-level excitement of generative AI to address the structural requirements for scale. Key areas of focus included governance frameworks, trust, interoperability between legacy and new systems, and the evolving operating models required for human oversight. The event featured expert speakers from the FAB AI Innovation Hub, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Presight, a G42 company. These leaders shared practical strategies for building, buying, or partnering to accelerate the deployment of production-grade AI.
Launched in February 2026, the SpeakEasy series is a core component of FAB’s community-building strategy. The initiative aims to strengthen the UAE’s AI ecosystem by providing an informal environment for knowledge exchange. Following this Dubai session, the next edition is scheduled for 10 September in Abu Dhabi, with two additional sessions planned before the end of 2026.
"The latest edition centred on the theme From AI hype to enterprise reality, exploring how organisations can build, buy and partner their way towards becoming more agentic enterprises and how organisations can move beyond pilots and experimentation to deploy AI at scale while delivering tangible business outcomes."
First Abu Dhabi Bank
The companies involved
First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB) is the United Arab Emirates' global bank and stands as one of the world’s largest and safest financial institutions. It plays a pivotal role in the regional economy, acting as a bridge for trade and investment flows. The bank has increasingly positioned itself as a technology leader, specifically through its AI Innovation Hub, which was established in strategic partnership with Microsoft. This hub focuses on accelerating AI-led innovation with specific targets for sustainability and customer experience.
The event also drew on the expertise of Amazon Web Services (AWS), the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform, and Presight. Presight is a leading big data analytics company powered by AI, operating as part of the G42 group, the Abu Dhabi-based technology holding company. The involvement of Microsoft, through the Hub’s foundation, further underscores the high-level corporate backing behind FAB’s technological transformation. These partnerships reflect a concentrated effort by FAB to integrate global tech expertise with local financial market leadership.
What FF News has reported before
FF News has previously tracked the intersection of major technology providers and financial services innovation. Our coverage includes reports on how partners like Microsoft are expanding their footprint in the sector, such as in Sionic Debuts Instant Bank Pay and AI Fraud Detection on Microsoft Marketplace, which highlights the growing trend of embedding intelligent automation directly into business processes. We have also monitored the broader financial landscape involving FAB and its peers through data-driven insights from firms like Moody’s, ensuring a comprehensive view of the regional banking sector’s evolution.
What this means
FAB is making a calculated move to own the "practitioner" space in the Middle East. By focusing on the "agentic enterprise"—where AI acts autonomously within set parameters—the bank is signaling that it is ready to move past the chatbot phase of AI. This puts pressure on other regional banks to demonstrate more than just "innovation theater." The real challenge, and what to watch next, is how FAB navigates the governance and interoperability hurdles discussed at SpeakEasy. If they can successfully move these technologies into production, they will set the blueprint for AI-first banking in the UAE, potentially widening the gap between themselves and slower-moving incumbents.
