Mambu: Enabling SEPA Instant & Next-Gen Payments
At Money20/20 Europe, Brian Overson from Mambu discussed how the company is getting banks ready for the SEPA Instant Payments rule that starts in October 2025. Since most of Europe still runs on older systems, Mambu Payments (previously Numeral) makes it possible to keep up right away without swapping out main systems. Its flexible, cloud-based design works with what’s already there, which aids companies to adapt quickly without huge issues.
In places like Brazil, which don’t have as much old tech, going real-time is easier. But Europe needs to add speed to older systems and Mambu is working on that using API setups. Overson also spoke about other rule updates like checking who gets paid and making international payments better. Mambu handles it in two ways: by giving the tech to follow the rules and by helping clients know what they need to do.
He talked about something important: More tech companies are turning into finance companies. With more requests for built-in wallets and payments, Mambu’s simple design fits well into online platforms that aren’t just banks.
Acquiring Numeral helped Mambu grow its payment features and now, they are concentrating on growing all over Europe by backing local and SEPA plans assisting clients to manage new needs while helping Mambu expand.
