How Are AI and Biometrics Shaping the Future of Online Payment Security?

In this interview, Nicholas of Giesecke+Devrient (G+D) talks with Peter from Omise to discuss how the payment landscape has evolved, and what’s next for 3D Secure (3DS), customer authentication, and frictionless checkout.

Peter describes how the traditional one time password (OTP) and SMS-based 3DS flows are being replaced with a more seamless mix of biometric authentication, passkeys, and smarter security models. Given the shift of users going more mobile-first to their banking, Omise is working to streamline this experience for users through deep link app-switching, also known as OOB (Out of Band) Authentication, which is already helping to increase conversion rates and reduce cart abandonment.

The conversation also digs into how much artificial intelligence is becoming a key component in fraud detection, specifically with behavioral data to improve the risk scoring in real-time without impacting user convenience. Additionally, Peter stresses the need to build solutions that will keep users secure while ensuring they can get to their checkout, without steps that take additional time to be successful.
