FF News Tattoo Studio: Inside VC Innovations’ Playbook for Fintech Events
At the FF News Tattoo Studio during Fintech Talents Festival 2025, Victor Cruz, co-founder of VC Innovations, talks about how his background and experience shaped the way he builds events and value for the fintech community.
Cruz explains that entrepreneurship has always been in his blood as he grew up surrounded by family members who all ran their own businesses and as a child he didn’t fully grasp what they were doing. However, he was drawn to the energy and independence that came with building something of your own and that early exposure meant he knew from a young age that he wanted to run a company like VC Innovations one day.
His route into doing that came through the events world. At 19, Cruz landed a job at Terrapinn, which has grown into one of the largest privately owned event businesses as his first proper office job and it hooked him immediately. Cruz talks about falling in love with the industry: producing conferences, travelling globally, learning about new sectors and having the kind of responsibility most people don’t get that early in their careers. From there, he went on to work for some of the biggest names in B2B media and events, including DMG Events and Informa and those experiences inside large incumbent organisations eventually gave him the confidence to think he could do things better and differently.
That mindset led to the creation of VC Innovations and Cruz notes that the business has now been trading for just over six years, and the 2025 edition of Fintech Talents at The Brewery which is their fifth show at this venue. He makes it clear they still see themselves as challengers “throwing punches” in a crowded market, focused on delivering something more thoughtful and high-touch than a standard conference format.
A big part of that difference, he says, is the way they handle managed, or “hosted”, meetings at the event. Rather than treating it as a bolt-on networking feature, Cruz sees it as a core responsibility and a key part of the value proposition for sponsors and delegates while describing how his team takes the time to understand attendee intent, build “discovery maps” and work through who should be meeting whom. For VC Innovations, this is about turning rich first-party data into something practical: helping buyers and sellers have the right conversations at the right time.
With Victor Cruz VC Innovations Fintech Talents shaping the standard for curated connection, the company continues to challenge what B2B events can—and should—deliver.
