Santoro: “Digital payments overall have been strongly increased due to the pandemic and thanks to many manufacturers that are really increasing the use of digital payment. The question is: Who is afraid of digital payments? Because a cashless society is a factor, and this is a secular trend that we cannot change back anymore.”
“I think that inclusion itself is embedded into digital payments, because it’s one of the key success factors to be able to serve more broadly to global customers to guarantee inclusion everywhere you pay. It’s a challenge that has been quite well managed recently, but I think it’s one of the more important ones for the next phase of digital payments: how can we support everyone, everywhere to pay as they prefer.”

Mastercard Advances Instant Cross-Border Payments with TIPS Cross-Currency Pilot
Mastercard today announced its participation in a Eurosystem-led pilot, conducted in collaboration with Danmarks Nationalbank and Sveriges Riksbank, on the TARGET Instant Payment Settlement (TIPS) platform, testing instant cross-currency payments (TIPS X-CCY). Participation in the pilot represents a key milestone in Mastercard’s strategy to build direct connectivity to payment infrastructures and demonstrates how instant cross‑border payments can be executed and settled instantly at infrastructure level.
