Claire Melling and Brad Carr Share Some of the Challenges Banks Are Facing Today
Open Banking initiatives mean banks like NatWest are now using data to improve their service to the end user. They just need to get the customer on board. Here Claire Melling, the Head of API’s at Natwest, talks about the changing data landscape and how they can increase customer confidence in the institutions using it.
“As consumers… we’ve been educated to not share our data. And now all of a sudden we’re being told to share that data. So we need to do a really good job of explaining to customers the benefits of sharing that data… and [explaining] why it’s safe for them to do that.”
We were also speaking to Brad Carr, the director of NAB, who talked about empowering the customer to control how they share their data and who they share it with. He also added that banks are struggling to source specialist digital skills, a need that is directly related to new data initiatives and legislation.
