Pavel Goldman-Kalaydin is the Head of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at Sumsub, a global KYC/AML/Antifraud company. In this role, Pavel Goldman-Kalaydin oversees the development of technologies for preventing financial fraud, models for detecting deepfakes, and improving document intelligence.
Residing in Berlin with his wife and two borzoi dogs, Pavel Goldman-Kalaydin frequently visits Tel-Aviv. Prior to his current role, he served as the Director of AI at Tinkoff, a leading fintech company. There, he was responsible for driving the company’s AI strategy and managing the Tinkoff Center for AI technologies, which consisted of more than 300 people and over 20 teams. He decided to leave and emigrate to Germany following the onset of the war.
Before joining Tinkoff, Pavel Goldman-Kalaydin was the Head of Applied Research at VKontakte, Europe’s largest social network. His team advanced machine learning algorithms and introduced innovative technologies to the platform. He also spearheaded efforts to improve newsfeed ranking, developed speech recognition technologies for VK’s voice messages (handling 200M daily), and worked on reducing hate speech. During this time, his team released yttm, the fastest text tokenizer.
In October 2019, he founded and led the VK AI Research Lab at Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, where the focus was on natural language processing (NLP) research, specifically in reducing the toxicity of language models.
With a background in software engineering, Pavel Goldman-Kalaydin holds an MS summa cum laude in Computer Science from Saint Petersburg State Polytechnical University. He previously worked at Motorola for over six years, contributing to the development of set-top boxes like au-Box and HD-STB.
Fluent in English, Japanese, German, and Russian, Pavel Goldman-Kalaydin enjoys running, cycling, and cross-country skiing in his free time.
