Mokgome Mogoba is an experienced Fund Manager, Investment Banker and Deal Maker with an investment record of more than 20yrs.
He is Managing Partner of Kholo Capital mezzanine debt fund managers. We provide mezzanine debt funding R75m to R225m to mid market companies that generate minimum R25m annual EBITDA in all sectors (excluding primary mining and primary farming). We provide growth capital to mid market companies with operations in SA, Botswana, Namibia, Swaziland or Lesotho. Investment tenor 4 to 7yrs targeting returns above 17% (interest rate plus equity upside).
Shareholder and former partner at Vantage Capital pan African mezzanine debt fund. Mokgome originated, structured, executed and actively managed investments in many markets and assisted with fundraising raising R11bn across 4 private debt funds (2 Mezzanine Debt and 2 Renewable energy senior debt). He led the conclusion and successful exits of the New GX, Thebe Timrite and Efekto investments and the conclusion of the Rosslyn Riviera shopping mall (Kenya) and Simba Properties (Uganda) investments and also oversaw the Primedia investment.
Whilst at Standard Bank Corporate and Investment Banking, Mokgome was the Head of the Financial Institutions Group, BEE and Public Sector divisions for a number of years whereby Mokgome concluded more than R25bn of investments. These included providing R2bn of growth capital to Old Mutual Finance, providing R2bn of investment capital to Shanduka Group (now Phembani), and concluding $400m debt advisory mandate for Kenya Airways.
Mokgome Mogoba was a member of Standard Bank’s Private Equity team and was also a founding member of the Mezzanine Debt investment team in 2005 whereby he co-led the conclusion of a number of investments. These included arranging and underwriting Mezzanine Debt and Senior Debt funding transactions including R6.9bn to fund the Sasol Group (Inzalo) BEE transaction, R6.2bn to fund the De Beers Ponahalo BEE transaction, R800m to fund the WACO Leveraged Buyout by JP Morgan Partners, R350m Metrofile’s restructured debt, R600m to fund Phembani’s acquisition of a 20% stake in Engen and R1.5bn to fund the Sasol Oil (Tshwarisano) BEE transaction.
Mokgome also built the Private Equity Buyout/Leverage Finance, Optimal Capital structuring and Credit rating models at Standard Bank and provided training and induction to staff across the whole bank.
Mokgome Mogoba is a qualified Chartered Accountant and holds a BCom (Acc) degree Summa Cum Laude where he came first in the Faculty of Commerce, Law & Mgt. He’s also a member of SA Institute of Directors.
