UK insurtech Policy Expert aims to hit 700 headcount through its multi-divisional hiring plan

Policy Expert, the UK’s leading personal lines insurtech, today announces further expansion plans across its technology, customer services and operational divisions which will see total headcount across the organisation grow to hit 700 by year-end.

Policy Expert is rapidly scaling and gaining market share, with 26% policyholder growth in the past 12 months and a double-digit share of price comparison website (PCW) sales. To support the latest customer acquisitions and the growing operation, the 26 new roles include:

  • 8 in technology: Policy Expert’s success has been built on proprietary tech and an agile cloud-based infrastructure. The insurtech only recently expanded its technology division to over 100 people. The additional hires will drive the development of its tech platform and its complete control of the customer experience, from pricing to claims.
  • 5 in customer services: Customer-centricity is at the heart of Policy Expert’s customer proposition. Through the team’s continuous effort, Policy Expert recorded a 50% increase in 5-star reviews covering claims, with 97% of customers recommending it and customer retention rates now exceeding 90% compared to a c.74% industry norm. The new joiners will help maintain the company’s position as the UK’s number one rated home insurance provider via ReviewCentre since 2013, based on over 55,000 reviews.
  • 13 in internal operations: Policy Expert is on track with its ambitious customer acquisition plan and business growth strategy. The additional managerial positions will support the development of the company’s underwriting capability and internal management, ensuring a seamless end-to-end service for Policy Expert’s customers. The insurtech’s increasing focus on employees’ wellbeing and development has also led to new roles in London, covering Internal Communications and Events and Learning & Development.

To facilitate this multifaceted expansion plan, Policy Expert is enhancing its recruitment process. These new roles will be sourced via a blind hiring process at the interview stage. The company also offers flexible and hybrid working across all roles as standard, and enhanced maternity/paternity policies that give parents up to 16 weeks fully paid maternity, and up to 4 weeks fully paid paternity leave.

The business continues to promote the importance of diversity and inclusion for the insurance industry. The company recently launched a partnership with CodeFirstGirls to help women get into the tech industry by offering them free technical courses and career pathways. Moreover, the introduction of a “Women at Work” forum and tailored mentoring programmes will give a voice and opportunities to people from every background.

Policy Expert was recently named a finalist in the 2023 EMEA Inspiring Workplaces Awards and currently has an overall Glassdoor rating of 4.8/5, based on over 283 anonymous employees. 97% of employees would recommend working at Policy Expert to a friend and 91% have a positive outlook for the business.

Adam Powell, Chief Operating Officer of Policy Expert, commented: “At Policy Expert we’ve developed rapidly from start-up to scale-up and achieved sustained, efficient and profitable growth. We’re proud to have built a team that always looks to bring positive changes to our customers and transform what people can expect from insurance. We look forward to working with talented individuals and accelerating our growth plan.”
