Tellybean gets ready for the future with new apps and fresh funding

Tellybean expands its service to new platforms with a brand new iOS app. To support the global roll-out of its service Tellybean will close 0.4min new equity from a crowdfunding campaign which is still open on www.invesdor.com/tellybean.

Tellybean’s first iOS app is ready! It will be launched publicly after the App Store has approved it. This first version of the app will allow iOS users to have a call with other Tellybean users. Tellybean aims to expand the app’s functionality so that an iPhone can be used as a “wireless webcam” for a Tellybean call on selected TVs.

Tellybean launched its video call service on the Android TV platform in 2015. In the beginning, Tellybean supported calls on selected set-top boxes and computers.

  • In February 2016, Tellybean released the Tellybean Camera App, which turns an Android mobile device into a “wireless webcam” for a video call on TV
  • The Camera App made Tellybean calls possible on Android TV SmartTVs, which lack webcam support
  • In August 2016, while ramping up cooperation with Sony and Philips, Tellybean released an Android mobile app that made calls between Android TVs and mobile users
  • In February this year, Tellybean announced that it has developed a second TV app that works on new Samsung and LG TVs Now the expansion to iOS takes Tellybean a big step closer to its strategic target of being available on all major platformsThe roll-out of Tellybean’s service is supported by new funding of some 400k€ raised through a crowdfunding campaign. So far 62 investors have made investments in the range of 750€-37k€ for a grand total of 397k€. The crowdfunding campaign closes tonight at 23.00 CET. It has been a busy past few months for Tellybean. Developing on new platforms is always tricky, but I am extremely proud of our team. We are now making Tellybean calls on new TV platforms and on iOS devices“, says Cami Hongell, CEO and Co- founder of Tellybean. “It also gives me great satisfaction to be able to close a successful investment round. I thank our shareholders for their continued support and welcome a fresh batch of shareholders on board.

Tellybean has also submitted an application to Tekes, the Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation, regarding the forgiveness of the majority of its R&D loans. Tellybean has a total of 1.2m€ in R&D loans from mainly 2012-2013, when it was developing its own hardware. As Tellybean’s business has moved on and today focuses on apps on the hardware of others, Tellybean believes that it’s application has a good chance of being accepted. If Tellybean’s application is accepted, it is expected to reduce Tellybean’s R&D loans of 1.2m€ by 60-70%.
