Rabobank introduces new payment options with Visa Debit

Rabobank will start issuing a new debit card in the second half of 2022 in collaboration with Visa. The bank is abandoning its existing debit card portfolio and launching Visa Debit: a future-proof debit card. With this new debit card, Rabobank customers can pay easily and securely in stores and online in Europe and beyond. They leverage Visa’s global acceptance at more than 100 million merchants in more than 200 countries and territories around the world.

Visa Debit is linked directly to the customer’s bank account, so they can easily monitor their spending. The new debit card also meets the demand from many consumers for sustainable solutions, as Rabobank produces all cards from recycled material. In addition, Visa Debit offers future-proof capabilities such as tokenization and advanced fraud prevention tools that contribute to a seamless and at the same time more secure payment experience. With Visa’s purchase protection, consumers are not held responsible for unauthorized charges incurred with Visa Debit, under the terms of the issuing bank.

Full flexibility

“We are excited that Visa Debit will be available to Rabobank customers in the Netherlands later this year. It offers cardholders complete flexibility to pay through all channels,” said Jos van de Kerkhof, Country Manager at Visa in the Netherlands. “Visa Debit meets the needs of customers for a secure, digital and globally accepted payment method for every day, in stores and online. Consumers in the Dutch market will pay with Visa or V PAY everywhere, with their Rabobank Visa Debit card can pay.”

Despite the fact that there are already various (online) payment methods in the Netherlands, according to Fred van Pouderoijen, Head of Cards at Rabobank, there is certainly still room for an additional payment method. “The possibilities of Rabobank Visa Debit are more extensive online than our current debit cards. Outside Europe, these cards are limited in their acceptance online and in the store. With the introduction of Visa Debit, Rabobank gives consumers one new, user-friendly payment method that can be used for contactless and mobile payments and for e-commerce and in-app purchases in the Netherlands and abroad.”

Customers will receive the new card automatically

Millions of Rabobank customers receive their Visa Debit card automatically and do not need to take any action themselves. More information about the extra functions of the new bank card will follow in the course of 2022.
