PSPs Can Access Swish Directly and Indirectly Through a Single Integration With Moonrise by Lunar

Moonrise by Lunar today announced the launch of its RIX indirect product, enabling payment service providers (PSPs) to, for the first time, connect both directly and indirectly to Swish, the country’s most widely used payment method, through Moonrise. With close to 9 million active users representing more than 80 percent of the population, Swish is the dominant real-time payment system in Sweden.

Swish processes more than 100 million transactions monthly, exceeding a billion annually, and is integrated with over 300,000 merchants across sectors from large e-commerce platforms to small retailers. For PSPs entering Sweden, Swish connectivity has become a critical market access component. Until recently, only licensed banks could connect directly to Swish, leaving PSPs reliant on indirect bank partnerships.

For fintechs looking to expand in the Nordics, Moonrise provides a single connection to Swish and other local payment rails, turning complex integrations into a straightforward, scalable solution.

“Speed and flexibility matter when entering new markets. In Sweden, that means Swish. We are proud to be one of the very first to make both indirect and direct Swish participation possible for PSPs, helping them scale quickly while staying future-proof,” says Nanna Bergmann, General Manager at Moonrise.

Moonrise is among the first to clear the technical and regulatory hurdles, offering PSPs a choice:

  • Indirect access to Swish via Moonrise — the fastest way to go live, with minimal engineering effort and no separate Swish contract required.
  • Direct participation with Swish — leveraging Moonrise’s infrastructure to manage connectivity, liquidity, and operational resilience, while PSPs retain full participation status.

“With this step, we’re opening up the Nordic payments landscape even further for fintechs and PSPs, and challenging the banks’ long-standing grip on domestic payment systems,” concludes Nanna Bergmann.
