Matica Fintec Strengthens Global Banking and Payment Ecosystem with Acquisition of Panini

The acquisition reflects Matica Fintec’s continued mission to build secure, scalable, and innovative financial ecosystems at the service of banks, governments, and enterprises worldwide.

Matica Fintec S.p.A., a world-leading designer, manufacturer and marketer of technology solutions for Financial and Government Institutions, has announced the acquisition of Panini S.p.A., a global leader in check scanning and secure document digitization technologies previously owned by SETA Holding since 2008.

The acquisition unites two trusted industry players with deep expertise in secure financial transactions, enhancing Matica Fintec’s banking‑infrastructure capabilities and positioning the company for accelerated growth in its core markets. Moreover, the integration of Panini brings an established and recognized presence in the marketplace and extensive value-added reseller partner network.  This will enable Matica to sharpen its focus on the United States by further leveraging recent investments geared to improve customer support, sales and production capabilities through the South Carolina regional headquarter and delivery of smart card personalization software and state-of-the-art integration by the dedicated Minnesota based software team. Both Matica’s software dedicated team and the manufacturing plant in USA will be a precious contribution to Panini Operations’ footprint and products’ development.

“Panini is a first-class company with a strong legacy in bank technology and long-standing relationships with major financial institutions,” commented Sandro Camilleri, CEO of Matica Fintec.
“This acquisition perfectly aligns with our strategy to scale in the fintech space, especially in the U.S. market. It strengthens our portfolio and extends our leadership across the Payment and Identity ecosystem.”

Celebrating its 80th anniversary this year, Panini stands as a symbol of continuous innovation and technological excellence. From its headquarters in Turin, Italy, and through its Panini North America subsidiary established in 1995 in Dayton, OH, the company has evolved from a local manufacturer to a trusted partner for financial institutions and organizations worldwide, renowned for its advanced imaging technologies and 80 years of innovation in payment validation and check truncation.

Fabrizio Rescigno, president of Panini, commented on this acquisition: “Today the Panini company that is joining Matica Fintec is an example of Italian excellence: pioneer and world market leader in the field of check scanner designer and manufacturer, it exports more than 85% of its products out of Italy to the top international banking institutions and invests constantly in research and development to bring new technologies such as the BioCred. This merger with an equally strong company should bring an impressive development for the years to come”.

“Becoming part of the Matica Fintec group is an exciting next step for Panini,” said Richard Kane, CEO of Panini.“We share a commitment to customer success and secure innovation. Matica Fintec’s continuing investments in the U.S. market will provide an immediate impact to Panini’s current resources, support capabilities and customized solution offerings that our direct customers, value added resellers and integrators require in the fast-evolving world of fintech.”

This acquisition reinforces Matica Fintec’s commitment to its core markets, while creating one of the industry’s most comprehensive secure‑payment portfolios, spanning instant card issuance and onboarding to check imaging and branch automation.

The integration of Panini and Matica combines complementary capabilities, unlocking synergies that will accelerate innovation and growth, thus creating further value for customers and stakeholders of both companies.

Customers will keep collaborating with their established points of reference, now strengthened by additional expertise and resources drawn from key global hubs, ensuring faster, culturally attuned support wherever they operate thanks to the regional footprint.
