dLocal Integrates Capitec Pay To Expand Real-Time Open Banking Payments in South Africa

dLocal, (NASDAQ: DLO), processes payments in South Africa for some of the world’s biggest brands. As a cross-border payment platform connecting global merchants to emerging markets, dLocal has expanded its South African offering by integrating Capitec Pay. This brings an added level of convenience for buyers by introducing open banking-based and real-time account-to-account payments to international merchants serving the country’s fast-growing digital commerce sector.

What Capitec Pay adds

Developed by Capitec Bank, Capitec Pay allows users to make instant, secure payments directly from their bank accounts — no cards or third-party platforms required. Transactions are authenticated through the Capitec banking app, giving consumers full control and eliminating the need to share sensitive financial details online. A standout feature is Variable Recurring Payments, which lets customers safely authorize ongoing payments—ideal for subscriptions and digital services.

Why it matters for merchants and consumers

  • Reaches South African consumers who prefer direct bank payments via Capitec Pay, authenticated in‑app for trust and ease.
  • Drives conversion with instant settlement and a familiar authorization flow—no card needed.
  • Supports subscription and digital service models through Variable Recurring Payments (VRP).

“Open banking is reshaping checkout in South Africa by pairing security with a seamless in‑app experience. With Capitec Pay now live through One dLocal, we’re giving global merchants a high‑conversion, real‑time A2A option that consumers trust — and expanding choice alongside cards, Instant EFTs, and BNPL. It’s a powerful step forward for customer experience and for growth in this dynamic market,” said Carlos Menendez, COO, dLocal.

Chris Zietsman, Executive Head, Capitec Business Payments added, “We’re pleased to see Capitec Pay available to more international brands serving South Africans online. Secure, app‑based authorization gives our clients confidence and control while making everyday payments simpler.”

Built for choice and conversion

With the addition of Capitec Pay, dLocal continues to build on its broad payment portfolio in South Africa. South African customers have the ability to transact with the world’s most loved international merchants and pay via their method of choice-be it via Instant EFTs, card payments, Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) and now also open banking A2A transfers. This positions dLocal as one of the first global Payment Service Providers to enable Capitec Pay for cross-border e-commerce.

Availability

Capitec Pay is available to merchants via dLocal’s single API with no additional local entity required. Contact your dLocal representative to enable the payment method in South Africa.
