Adyen Expands International Partnership with adidas to Help Boost Donations for UNHCR and Special Olympics
Adyen, the global financial technology platform of choice for leading businesses, is expanding its Adyen Giving checkout donation feature with adidas internationally to help the global sports brand support the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and Special Olympics. Following successful rollouts in Canada, the United States, and Germany, adidas is now implementing the donation feature across several additional European markets as well as in Brazil and Mexico.
Adyen and adidas have collaborated on in-store donation capabilities since 2023. In the United States and Canada alone, shoppers in 216 stores have already contributed more than $1 million in donations via Adyen Giving since go-live to nonprofits including the Terry Fox Foundation and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA). The program is now also live across all 28 adidas stores in Germany, with further expansion underway across Europe and Latin America. In addition, Special Olympics Germany is being onboarded to strengthen the long-term charitable impact of the initiative. Adyen will continue to match all donations made via Adyen Giving until the end of the year.
Consumer appetite for accessible giving remains strong. Globally, 30% of consumers report feeling more compelled than ever to give to charity (source: Adyen Index 2025). 34% seek new ways to contribute without monthly or annual commitments, and an even greater share say they end up giving more over the year when they can donate small amounts.
“At adidas, we believe that through sport we have the power to change lives. With Adyen Giving we empower our customers to join us making a positive impact with every purchase,” said Matthias Koeppel, Director Charitable Giving at adidas. “Expanding our collaboration with Adyen allows us to offer millions of shoppers around the world a simple and transparent way to support organizations doing essential work, such as UNHCR and Special Olympics. Together, we aim to make meaningful contributions where they are needed most.”
“Consumers want to make a difference, but they want flexibility in how they give,” said Alexa von Bismarck, President EMEA at Adyen. “Adyen Giving enables exactly that: the ability to donate spontaneously, transparently, and with full trust at the checkout. We are proud to expand our partnership with adidas to make giving easier for millions of customers worldwide, especially at a time when global support for charity organizations like UNHCR is more important than ever.”
Through Adyen Giving, retailers can activate charity donations directly at checkout, without impacting settlement flows, and give shoppers a simple, transparent way to support meaningful causes. All donations go directly to the chosen organization, with Adyen covering any associated fees and matching all contributions made via Adyen Giving in 2025 and 2026.
