Unlocking Insurance Data Visibility: Yandy Plasencia on How DataHaven Transforms Financial Insights

Yandy Plasencia is the founder and CEO of DataHaven Software, a company who are focused on helping insurance carriers tackle some of their most complex data challenges. At its core, DataHaven’s work is about giving insurers clearer visibility into their financial performance, especially from the CFO’s point of view, and using that clarity to uncover opportunities to improve operational efficiency.

Plasencia explains that before DataHaven became a software business, it started life as a consulting firm. That consulting DNA still shapes how the company approaches problems today. Back in 2016, Plasencia was brought in by an insurance company to help with a very specific need: visualising data in a way that delivered insights from a different perspective and what was meant to be a straightforward engagement quickly turned into something much bigger.

After delivering the original project, the client was surprised by both the speed and the impact of the work; opening up broader access to their data and asked Plasencia to identify other areas where improvements could be made. What followed was eye-opening, and millions of dollars in potential value was uncovered, including recoverable premium opportunities and contract structures that were working against the insurer.

Despite the variety of issues identified, DataHaven notes that they all traced back to the same root cause: lack of visibility into the data. Without clear, trusted insights, financial and operational inefficiencies can remain hidden in plain sight and that realisation became the foundation for Data Haven’s mission which is to use data visibility to help insurance companies make smarter decisions and drive real financial impact.
